Tear down after 30 Mile "Break-in" period?

Just brought home my new 220. Reading through the owners manual tonight, I see "ride it 10mi, cool, tighten" then, ride "another 20, and drain and tear down, decorbonize and go at any score marks with 600 emery". Now, did they put that in there to cover their keysters? Ive had a lot of bikes, and have never pulled or felt it necessary to pull the top end apart after a measily 30 miles. What gives? are guys REALLY doing this, or just the guys a bit more on the hard-core side of exercising their toolbox?
thanks for your input!

I have not heard of anyone doing it. I never did on either fresh top end I had on my 220. Just take it easy on it for the first full tank of gas, let it warm up good before riding it and you'll be good to go.

I agree with Fred.

me too, i saw that when i got my 250 but never did it. i think it is just a load of crap. you may need to change the plug after breakin cuz most of the time the stock jetting is rich and that causes the plug to foul at speeds.
