what 4stroke for a tall beginner to drive in woods

I would like to buy a second hand (or maybee new) 4-stroke bike to drive mainly in small tracks in the woods and small roads. Is has to bee light, silent (very important), confortable, have good torque and balance at low speed, and good quality. I have tried Yamaha TT225, Honda XR250 och Suzuki DR250 before. I think they are to much power, to heavy and to hard to control trottle at low speed (I think Yamaha TT225 was the best, but that I tried to short time). It is good if there is light and horn on the bike.
Today I use to exercise moutainbike and I want by bying this bike to go futher away, have more confortable rides and stay out longer time. I am 189cm 78kg (5'8" 171lbs).
What bike to buy? Is a 125cc enought? At transports on roads 90km/h (55mph) is fast enought. Can a trial bike be an alternative (I dont now anything about that kind of bike) ?

Wow, you've got a lot to learn. Trial bike = NO. It goes like 3 mph (but it can climb walls). Most bikes you're look at will be able to get up to 55. A 125 two stroke is enough, but you'll need at least a 250 four stroke. The 125 two stroke is too loud for you. Your options are the DRZ 400, XR250, XR400, TTR 225 / 250 KLX 300 and KDX 200/220. You said the bikes you've ridden were too powerful, but you can get used to them. All of those bikes I've listed should do what you want.

I agree with yzeater. If you go for a 4-stroke smaller than a 250, your going to be looking for another bike in a short time. If you think it has too much power,( I can't imagine) just don't twist the throttle too far. You will get used to the power very quickly and be wanting more. I can't even imagine a 250 4-stroke having too much power. (250f possible exception)

when did 5'8" become tall? :D
The bikes you listed are great beginner bikes, and if they really are too much then get an XR100, at least they have a great resale value because you'll grow out of it very quickly.

189cm = 6'3 if I'm not mistaken.
Sounds like a KTM 400 would fit you perfectly. Light, quiet, easy to ride and well suited to taller riders.

I would recommend a Yamaha WR250F. A friend of mine just started riding last year and this was the bike he got. After a year and a half, he says that he still feels that it was the best possible bike for him to start out on. It can be ridden fast or slow with ease, has great suspension and is not heavy like XR's, TTR's, etc. Plus, as your skill progresses, you can do some simple mods to get YZ250F like power out of it and not be out too much money.

Sounds like an XR250R would be great for you, I have a 1991 and Love it. You said that an XR250R had to much power, Well I don't like to admit it but when I went to look at mine at the guys house before I bought I was scared of it, Just be easy on the throttle and when starting off just give her a little gas and let the clutch out slowly and you shouldn't have any problems, Matt

I say XR200R or XR250R or XR250L. Try all the bikes before you decide.

I would go with the XR250R, the XR250L will have street legal lights and a horn (I think) but it will be heavier and doesn't have as good as suspension as the XR250R. XR250R has a headlight and is a perfect bike for someone starting out and someone of your size. Believe us when we say it is not too powerful. You will get used to it in no time, probably even wishing you had more power within 6 months.

Or you could wait a few months and get a bike that does it all. That new Husky te250 sure seems to be a sweet ride.... easily street legal, power of a yz/wr250f, smooth power like an xr 250, e-start and quiet! I hear it does 86db stock, and dont worry about mods, its readey out of the box. That is if you have the time and the money. Husky has left more than afew people waiting on this one. It is now expected somethime in August. Price is said to be around $6k. In the mean time you could pick up a used xr and get your riding up to speed, sell it when your ready for something better and not take too much of a loss. Good luck!

I would look into a Kawasaki KLX 250.

If you want something lite but with ok power for your size you could try the new crf230 comming out from Honda. Or even a CR125.
