how much should it cost to get new forks seals if i take the forks off and bring them to the shop. the guy i talked to said it would be about 120 bucks is that a good price.also how hard is it to do it yourself and would it be worth it or should i just take it to him. thanks

What bike and year ??? $120 , I haven't paid anyone .01 yet.
All you need is a metric socket set , pipe wrench ..........for any big sockets you don't have. Something to measure the cc's of oil you will put back in,and the owners manual. I am fixing to dig into my cr's fork's for the 4th time ........keep almost making the double and tweaking the seals. Seals are $30 a set and oil is $5-$7 a fork . Once you do it yourself, you can do any bike you ever own !!! If you need more details .....ask.
See ya

A $120? Does this guy wear a mask and carry a gun? That's highway robbery!
If you shop around, you can get fork seals for under $30 a set. Just be sure to bleed the cartridge properly.

The dealer here was 80 plus parts, so if its 40 in parts, your right on. If you get a friend to show you or advice from here, you could save some $$
Good luck, Walt

There are different versions to the "seal change"....
Some unscrupulous shops will just dump the fluid and slam in new seals, while leaving all the contaminated fluid throughout valving. Expect short seal life and poor fork performance if this method is used.
A complete teardown where the base valve, midvalve piston and shims are removed and cleaned, inspected, and reassembled is the only way to expect optimin performance and seal life. This is the only way to uncover bent shims that need replacing, a common occurance on the YZ midvalve assembly.
ktmdad, in response to your "highway robbery" statement, $120.00 for fork seals and a "good" seal change job which will restore your forks to brand new condition is money well spent, unless of course your subscribe to the "dump and flush" idea...
For the "most" part, you get what you pay for......
Take Care, John

Try cleaning the seals first. Many times a leak can be fixed by taking a piece of 35 mm film and working it up and down between the seal and the fork all the way around. I can't count how many times this has worked for me.

if the fork has leaked a lot of fluid, would you still recommend trying to clean the fork with the 35mm film method? if so how hard is it to replace the leaked fluid? one manual i saw said something about removing the forks just to replace the fork oil. is ther another way? by the way I have a 02 WR250
