KX60 shock replacement

Hi Jeremy! I just bought 2 KX 60's for my 7 and 9 year old. On the 1994, the purple shock is very soft and the bike bottoms out with little pressure. The 1998 has a stiffer shock (or is it a spring) and it is much better. Is it a big job for me to replace this shock/spring? Any ideas as to where to get this shock (i know nothing about motorcycles). Let me know if this is something I can do myself and if there is anything to watch out for with regards tio the shock selection of installation.
Thanks!
Jim
PS I weigh 220 lbs and would like to be able to ride this bike also if I need to.

Jeremy is a WP Suspension distributor. I bet you could get a good deal on a replacement WP shock from him. The WP would be way better than the stock unit.

Around here they mostly have Ohlins on the faster 60cc riders bikes. I haven`t seen a WP on one , do they have one for the 60/65s?

They sure do!! And they probably offer better product support to boot.

A completely new shock will cost a bunch of money!! Be prepared to shell out 400+ bucks.
A new shock will work wonders, but if you cannot afford it, a new spring and a shock rebuild will do just fine. If you like the way the 1998 shock is, see if you can buy a used spring for a 1998, or just contact an aftermarket spring company like mx-tech or race tech. New springs are around 80 dollars. A shock rebuild and inspection for worn parts on a 1994 shock is a must (if the shock has never been serviced, ever) This will run you around 80 bucks also. You can send it off to mx tech or race tech, or just find a local suspension guy to do it.

Oh man I am in trouble! This shock replacement issue is way over my head! I cant pay $400 for a shock rebuild. The buying a new spring sounds good and the $80 look see also might work.
Thanks for the information! I appreciate it!

I have a used WP or a new Ohlins rear shock here for a KX 60 if your interested.
Also a standard 60 shock is not rebuildable so you will have to replace it if its worn or broken

he meant $400 for a new shock, you can probably have the shock rebuilt for $100 and use the same spring you have already
