After I raced last weekend, I noticed that the left side fork seal is already leaking, and I only have around 6 hours on the bike. It has never even been powerwashed. I did case a double pretty bad and clanked the forks VERY hard, but could this really have blown a seal? What else could cause a seal to fail after such a short time?

Seals can wear out right away or wear forever just cut your looses and get the forks rebuilt.

Yea, rebuild them because you have a seal leak.
I've a better idea, that worked for me. Get some cheep 35mm film, cut the film into 8" pieces and carefully slip the film into the seal, work it up and down slowly. do this around the tube...what happens sometimes, dust gets between the leg and the seal and causes a leak. it is a cheep repair if it is only dust. even out your oil levels and ride. :D

Thanks for the input guys. Actually, I already received my new seals in the mail and am going to replace them this weekend. I guess I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas as to what happened.

Try using Honda 46mm fork seals and wipers, They seem to do a better job of keeping the dirt out and are less prone to leaking.

grease the area under the dust boots. i did this on my wr with belray grease right when i got the bike, almost a year and no problems.

I have a new cr250 and found myself in the same boat with less than 10 hours. I noticed a slight leak and thought the same thing, that I was getting a little dust uder the seal. I raced cherry creek National last week and wow is it leaking now. I asked the service mgr, what else can be done to prevent this in the future. He said that the second set has been holding up alot better the first for some reason. Who knows :silly: If you've experienced this too please reply.
