Converting a KTM50 LC to aircooled?

Right my friend in his wisdom purchased a KTM50LC senior as the jnr were all sold. Now in the UK we put the lc in the older class as its way faster than the aircooled model. His son cant ride it in the older class as he is 5.So i have been told you can bolt on the aircooled top end on -the bottom end looks the same and the water pump looks like its added on the bottom end.Has anyone heard of this mod?

I thought the LC bikes were Beta engines? Maybe the air cooled ones are now Beta as well, if that's the case I guess you could shange out the cyliner and head and be done with it. Might want to do something with the water pump though to keep it lubricated.

The new LC motors here are not Moto Morini motors like the Air cooled ones. While i know the older Moto Morini Water cooled motors can be converted to Air cooled I don't think the same is true with the new Beta motors.
Also I don't know about the UK but most places in the states don't care wether or not you are LC or AC but they go by the bikes size. The JR is smaller and has a smaller carb. So even though you convert to air cooled motor here in the states its still the SR and goes in the 7-8 class. You could swap the fork tubes from the Jr and dial the rear shock down or have someone modify the swing arm to lower the rear. I don't think the speed is the issue its the physical size of the bike. The Pro jr is a darn fast bike. almost as fast as the SR. If speed is the issue have him take one shim out of each clutch shoe and the clutch will hit earlier. This lets the kid get used to the speed gradually as it come on the pipe instead of just roosting automatically.

I was looking at a KTM 50jr today and it definatly had the same bottom end-what years did things change as maybe this LC50 is a new 01 model?as you can tell minis arnt my strong point.thanks for the tip on the clutch as it does bite late.I have alreadly lowered it so that part is sorted.

Pro seniors went to LC in 2001 and Pro Jr's are LC in 02. If it was a 2001 or earlier Pro Jr then it should be the Franco Morini motor most likely.

I had a look at the 2002 Beta Pro Senior. The bottom end looks exactly like the KTM LC motor. The top end is air cooled. Perhaps you could convert your KTM with parts from it?

I noticed the pipes are also very different-this could work out expensive.
