Asterisk-broken cable

I used my braces only 20-25 times (only riding), without crashes and the cables from the right brace, both of them, broked.After that, i cheked out also the left one and i found that the inside cable is almost broke but the outside one is in perfect condition. Is it because of me or is a system problem. The braces came without that extra pads ( i learned from this forum that the braces come with 2 sets of pads), so i used them with the slim one and the braces are a little large at the knee joint, can be this the problem?
