Well, we're coming over there. Two LOI riders and one B rider.

What tires should we run. What's elevation, temperature,.........

Thanks

Posted by: gasgasman---------------------

Cool. I'm running a test section at the race.

Expect lots of sand with deep whoops. Bring extra filters, may be dusty.

Temps will be in the 90s. That's why we're starting early in the am.

Altitude is about 250ft above sea level.

Our club has set up some really fun test sections to ride.

Check out www.trh-cycle.org for more info. Even has a list of pre-entries.

Thanks gasgasman!

Talked to Chris Hardy yesterday, says some of the special tests are like baked concrete, says we should run intermediates........

Do we need to goop our tires, like for W Tx races? No mooses for me this race, too tough to change.

I'm worried about the heat, but looks like we get a good water break ever coupla hours.

Geeze, used to riding my 380 at elevations above 7,000'. It's gonna be a handfull at 0' elevation!

Waterproofing?

It ain't the heat that gets ya... it's the humidity. It'll feel like 300% to someone from AZ.

Watch out for gators and snakes too. I saw plenty of them the last time I rode at Skull Creek.

Woods... I grew up in the swamps of FL. Having alligators and diamondbacks on the course will inspire me!

The humidity has me worried, I'm spoiled by living at 7,000' elevation......

You'll wish you never see a sand whoop again after this one. The man-made sand dunes section rival anything the Pacific times zone have to offer. Compounding the heat & humidity, the endless sand sections will tax the body. I expect to see a lot of DNFs -- expecially among the non-LOI riders that MUST ride both days to gain TSCEC Sabine Division pts. I can't believe they're requiring "C" riders to go 60+ mi. in so. TX in late June for 2 days in a row. It might be too much for weekend warriors!

Posted by: Buckholz---------------------

Sounding better and better. We occasionally ride whoops out here.... I think my tail end still hurts from not being able to stand up enough at Casey Folk's Laughlin race last Feb

Posted by: gasgasman---------------------

Pinestraw.
You have to realize that, with the Qualifier rules you have an hour between special tests. You can roll up to the special test and wait 'till your row # comes up. You can use that time to cool off and get water.

I guess you don't remember when enduros were 120 miles long?

Posted by: P. Pinestraw---------------------

Great! Nothing I like better than to sit around in the heat (& sun) for an hr. in full race gear while loosened muscles try to stiffen up & fending off dehydration & riulets of sweat while WAITING to ride again. Of course, if a guy could spend that downtime in his air-conditioned trailer, it would be pretty good. Naturally, I don't have one. On the sweet side though, the forecast calls for 4 days of rain in the region, which could result in sandy LOAM & good traction. Despite all my pi$$in' & moanin,' I think I'm ready for it. Four days a week at the gym/spa/steam room!

Posted by: xrsforever---------------------

heh gas gas man,my section is better than yours (ha,ha,just kidding)
I disagree with Chris on intermediate tires, anything less than soft tires and you will be slidding all over the place. IMHO/ Test Captain,Cattle Pen Test.

Posted by: gasgasman---------------------

We got a lot of rain last night (Sat) so the gound is nice and tacky.

xrsforever. You get the hero of the year award...building that test section all by yourself!

There will be concessions for you hungry folks, from Fri to Sun. In fact, there's a guy selling some really good watermelons on the corner of HWY 90 and 71.

Posted by: Buckholz---------------------

Gasgas and XRsforever, see yawl there. Be nice to the old fat guy on the KTM380, race number 410............

Can't believe we're driving 20 hrs oneway to race in 90/90 conditions......

As in 90 miles and 90F?
Thanks for making it to our race. We'll see you there.

We'll have to brush you up on your Texas lingo ............yawl ? Wait 'till the guys hear about this.

Yes...it will be fun weekend.

Posted by: P. Pinestraw---------------------

Not 90 mi. -- unless they're LOI riders, right? I believe he meant 90 degrees & 90% humidity. If the races start at 7 AM (a good idea), then what time do they end? 10-11 O'Clock? I assume it's 3-4 hrs. long, right?

Posted by: gasgasman---------------------

I would figure around Noon. It all depends on if you ride the transition trails fast and go ahead and ride into the test sections.

www.trh-cycle.org has the race route chart with the break down of times and sections to ride.

Good luck this weekend. Just look for the box van w/ the DRN sticker on the rear bumper.

Well, Bret and I had a blast. He's hopeing he did well enough for 10th overall. Me, well, I had a blast too for the first 10 special tests till a pinhole in my radiator eventually lead to siezure. Kinda a bummer, I was running in the 3-5th place amongst the Sr LOI's, the heat wasn't bothering me at all. No crashes, the leak was caused by the thermostat housing rubbing against the radiator probably since the bike was new, and it decided to wear thru during the first loop.

Gasgasman, great to meet you, your club did a fantastic job! I'm gonna get fitter, and take a shot at qualifing next year.

GREAT trails! Especially if you like sand. The Sand dunes test wasn't as difficult as I thought It'd be. The dune hillclimb separated the men from the boys & the real bikes from the eggbeaters. The weather was NOT hot & it rained HARD 30 min. on Fri. eve -- thus eliminating dust, but leaving very little standing water, for the entire weekend. It wasn't until the LOI MX test late Sun aftrnoon that the heat & dust came back into play. Yes indeed, Mother Nature was VERY, VERY cooperative on 6-21!
