David Bailey calls for longer motos

In the new Racer-X Dave says in his column that we should take the 250 class motos back to 40 minutes each. He cites some good reasons why he thinks it ought to happen. I'd give it my vote in a heartbeat! The tough nature of the outdoor motos is what gives them their unique quality. Making them a little tougher (while giving the spectators more bang for their buck couldn't hurt). The sport is really picking up speed right now in terms of recognition and a return to the longer motos would help cement the idea of how tough and fit you have to be to compete.

Well put!

a great idea, but i expect it would get boring watching RC not only thrash, but also lap the guy in second place!

I gotta go with David on this one. Maybe RC will lap more riders but there are a lot of guys that are stepping up to the plate and training harder. Personally I like to see Larocco have more time to catch up.

I would love to see longer National motos.

It's not Live TV friendly, but too bad! While we are at it, bring back the 500 class.

(OK, I know the AMA will never bring back the 500's, but a man can dream...)

I have heard LaRocco comment before on the fact that he would like longer motos. :D

Yep and riding that fourstroke maybe he will get a better start and wont need as much time too. That would be awsome.

about how far is he currently lapping up to?

Posted by: jake949---------------------

didn't he lap up to 6th a couple weeks ago? i might be wrong but that sounds about right.

Posted by: XRpredator---------------------

Unfortunately, it won't happen. Especially if we still want to see it on TV.

No we'll probably do something stupid, like follow the FIM GP format aka supercross. Now that wouldn't be too bad if the make the motos 60 minutes + 4 laps. We'd be seeing pitstops for fuel!

The Rock was lapped by Ricky at Daytona once in 30 minutes he would surely do it in 40. I remember RC was nice enough to let Rock by just before the checker to get his lap back. Stewart would Lap Reeds also.
I think they need to start a new super pro class with RC and Bubba going head to head, one moto on a 125 and one moto on a 250!
RC is rolling a tick or two off his pace and still kicking butt big time.
He is like trail riding most of the day looking over checking how far back everyone is. Maybe he should face backwards on the start LOL<<<<

Two 40 minute motos per national would make the US even stronger and secure the US as the premier place to ride and race. More and more riders would be in better shape to with stand any racing conditions in the world.

GO USA! ! ! ! !! Complete domination....

Posted by: TheGrinch---------------------

Aren't the World MX GP races in Europe 40 minutes?

Posted by: motomike137---------------------

They only run one moto over there now.

Posted by: mkuder---------------------

I agree 40 minute motos for the 250's would make for more fit riders to make it to the front, Also 30 minute 125 moto's for the future stars. As far as RC and James are concerned, if they continue to smoke the field put restrictions on their bikes to make for more interesting racing, yeah I know that wouldn't be fair so compensate them for their cooperation. We could change the format to a timed event, like the offroad series
OK, let um fly!

The GP's are 35mins + 2 laps, not long enough and when they are only running one moto, anyone see in the June Dirt rider mag the secert photos on the 03 KX's?? that was from the GP's, why didnt they just say that???? tossers.

A while back I was looking into the car racing deal.. You need to add more of strategic element into racing. Right now one guy figures it all out and smokes everyone.. Its allways been like this in our sport. Now we need to make it more of brain race as well.. I don't really like the idea of a "pit stop" but it would end the holeshot wins the race sydrom we have now.. Plus would also require more than just speed..

Well food for thought.. We need to figure out a way to make more riders competive race day to race day.. Racing right now sucks beacuse we already knows who is going to win..

Jer

One of the things I like about MX is that there isn't pit stops and restrictor plates and all of that other crap. The gate drops and it is a race to the finish. I don't think a pit row would fit on most tracks anyway.

If RC can lap half the field during a regular race, I don't think it matters if he gets the holeshot or not. I'd hate to see MX become more like Nascar just because RC is running away with it. The other riders need to step up and be competitive on race day. This would be like changing the rules of golf because Tiger wins all of the time. Pit stops didn't keep Jeff Gordon from running away with nascar a couple years ago (but rumor has it that NASCAR is fixed anyhow).

I read some where that Reed said that eurpean riders wait for the race come to them and work it out from there but yet in america its just from the gate dropping to the wave of the flag.
