Bark Busters

Hey Guys,
I'm looking for some input from all the informed minds of Dirtrider.
I'm riding an 02 CR250, and have been riding with some old enduro buddies lately who like to ride alot of tight stuff.
Coming from an old MX background, I've been using the new Acerbis flag guards, which really don't cut it. And I really don't want to cut my bars down too much. probally w/B-Busters installed-31". I would like to not have to cut the end of my levers off.
Can anyone tell me which brand that they use , where cutting off your levers is not neccesary
Thanks for all your replies in Advance-Wayne

Whatever kind you get, you should just be able to use "shorty levers" to accomodate them. I have the ones from Yamaha that bolt to the upper fork clamp with brackets that bolt to the actual bark buster. I don't know who makes them for Yamaha but I'm sure someone on here does. My brake lever was a short design from the factory and I ordered a shorty lever for the clutch. I have a hydraulic clutch but I'm sure someone makes a short lever for the stock perch. I don't think you can use any of them and not have to shorten the clutch lever if the bark busters are at the right location to prevent hand damage.

Good luck.

I use Maier PVC guards and didn't have to cut the levers. The only drawback is that they are flexible enough to bust the perches in a nasty bail out.

Usually you can use any of 'em, especially the ones that mount to the tripleclamp, with full length levers by moving the levers in on the bars.

Though I've never personally owned a bike where I didn't cut the levers. I like 'em short.

When I had Barkbusters I would lower the clutch lever a little.

i use Cycra Pro-Bends w/ the plastic guards on them, and i never had to cut anything, readjust anything. i love them, they are bent down just alittle so u don't hafta woprry about ur wrist getting stuck in them in a over-the-bars get off, and they don't interfeat w/ any of my levers.

My buddy uses the MSR's without any problems. I have Moose and don't have any trouble with them either. BEWARE not all barkbusters come with the end insert that is made for the aluminum bars. My Moose ones didn't and it ended up costing me another $15.00 because I had to have them and nothing else was in stock.

Acerbis Rallyeguards with MSR Dominator shorty levers.
I've had this set-up for 4 years!

In 15 years of riding with hand guards I've never know anyone who's broken their arm or wrist during a crash. I'm not saying it couldn't happen, just the risk of it actually happening is extremely minimal.

Crushed fingers from slamming into trees without handguards are much more common injuries and usually requires surgery to properly heal.

I broke my wrist and thumb when I got caught on the plastic guard. I really like the bark busters but they still kinda scare me.

After dropping my WR and breaking the $30 brake lever last week Im very tempted to put them back on.

I should probably say that it could have happened from impacting the ground but I had absolutely no cuts or scrapes on my hand or gloves. Also the hand guard was pulled away from the aluminum guard. Im 99% sure my breaks were from getting hung up in the guards when I went over the bars.

Gotta go with Woodsrider on this one. My knuckles are still swollen from years of riding enduros BEFORE handguards ever came out.

I am using the enduro engineering gaurds on Renthal (carmicheal bend) Fatbars...and they work great. I just had to move my perches in a little.

Me and a couple of buddies always raced alot of enduros and hare scrambles. We all got so comfortable with bark busters we never took them off. Both of them had broken wrists/arms when they went a$$ over teakettle trying the motocross stuff their hand/arm got caught between the buster and the bar. Woods riding is different from motocross. My only advice is that when woods riding use them and when you decide to go on the track take them off unless it is just the "flexible" handgaurds. Just my experience.
