125/east/west combined??

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Do you think that the 125's should have one championship in supercross, instead of having east & west??

I hope they combine it myself, whats your opinion??
RIck

Yup... it'll happen.

Posted by: rickyd---------------------

I hope it does, would be a waste too see all the talent sitting at home whenthey could be racing..

Sounds good to me. It would have given us a lot more chance for the reed/stewart battle instead of having just Las Vegas. Too bad Reed is moving to 250's next year.

would be good but they should maybe start off slowly with a east Vs west 3 series unlike the one off race at the end of the season

Posted by: rickyd---------------------

Who do you think will win the Bubba/Reed battle??

I think they should do the whole series like it is done for the Nationals..

Hopefully Reed will win but now we will have to wait a few years for bubba to move up.

In the 125's it's pretty obvious don't you think? Yeah, Reed has a bad shoulder... JS has a bad knee. Stewart get's hole shots, the one time Reed started ahead of him (Nationals, prior to Reed's shoulder and JS with bad knee) JS passed him first lap, waived good-bye. The other time Reed started ahead of JS (Vegas), he was passed, JS said good bye. Reed is great.... JS is just on another level.

Yea, but come on, god has a definite advantage and may already know the outcome.

yea i agree i think they should combine the two.

I'm obviously in the minority. I don't think they should be combined. There'd be a lot fewer opportunities and chances for the privateers if they were combined.

But that's just my opinion, and opinions are like cowboy hats . . .

i think they should combine the 125 east + west and the 250's and make them ride 90cc step through scooters and have a 2 hour battle to the finish.

if not, i still think combining the east west will give a better series!

Nah... I think they should leave them alone for several reasons.

Having an east and west gives the privateer riders more opportunity to (1) get to the different races without going broke and (2) qualify for the night show/main event.

You have to realize - the SX series is 16 races (compared to 12 national races) and the SX schedule kinda bounces back and forth from east to west locations. The nationals are only 12 races and the schedule is very concentrated (9 north-east races and 3 west coast races) which makes it easier for privateers to make all the races.

Plus the SX starting grid is only 22 riders - compared to the 40 riders at a national. So there is half as many spots on the SX gate making it very hard for a privateer to get noticed (especially since your top guys automatically go to the night show).

But I do agree that everyone wants to see a Bubba/Reed match-up all season long - not just at one Vegas race... so maybe make the last three or four SX races like an east-west shootout series? Or just make people suffer in anticipation for the outdoor nationals or when these two riders move up to the 250 SX ranks?

I would actually like to see the top 250 and 125 guys battle it out on 85's. I think that would be cool to watch. I think they should do something like that at the U.S. Open. Sounds better than 90cc scooters. Haha

Way to go Nikki! Excellent Post!

Posted by: rickyd---------------------

Nikki, that was a great re-ply.. Would be nice if the promotors would do more for the privateer..
Rick

Ditto with Nikki and XRP, unfortunately, I don't believe that the current system is very conducive to privateers making a break either. I don't know what the solution would be, but to say that the current system is doing a great job of allowing kids on the fringe to break through might be overly optimistic as well.

On one hand keeping the series split provides for at least twice as many winners, twice as many racers the opportunity to make the main, etc, etc. It also cuts travel costs to do an entire 125 SX series, and all the other things that have already been pointed out.

On the other hand, this is professional motocross. This is the highest level that a racer can achieve (save the 250 series). This is also a form of entertainment and SX is breaking in as a mainstream sport and gaining media coverage. The level of competition with one 16 race 125 series would be stunning. Perhaps there are other ways for aspiring SX stars to get their experience and exposure.

What to do...
