KLX 250 jumps out of gear

My buddy was racing his KLX250 in an enduro at the weekend and complained of it jumping out of gear and dropping into a false neutral - any ideas as to the cause ??
For those of you with a KLX and fed up with hot start problems he also reported back that the hot start kit we made up for about $20 works great - no more starting problems - the idea came from www.planetklx.com

Planet KLX website has a write up on a fix for the shift star, do it and the jumping out of gear problem should be solved.

The DR does something similar and the bolt that hold the ratchet assembly on the end of the shifter drum comes loose and will evenually back out enough to let the clutch shear it off causeing little metal parts to bounce around in you lower end. You can just take it off and use red locktight on it and torque it down. On the DR you just have to remove the right side cover and the clutch to get to it. I think you mean the same thing by "shift star".
