Replacing Cases????

I was out riding last week and my 250F blew up after a couple laps. My mechanic pulled everything apart and found that the rod broke in half. It damaged both cases, the cylinder and a whole mess of other things. Did this ever happen to anyone else? If I put in new cases, how difficult is it to press out all the bearings and what not? Is there any other alternatives?

If you are going to replace the cases, you would be safest to go with new bearings all the way around. Most case bearings, in the motors I've worked on at least, would possibly be damaged by removing them. I'd hate like heck to tear a whole motor down with all new parts and have a bearing go south on me. Is is possible to repair the cases? Sometimes you can have them welded if the damage is not too extreme. I've seen a few yzf's that blew up and the best solution looked like a new bike. I sure hope my 426 doesn't end up this way.
Good luck.
