WR 250 or WR450

Need some help folks. I currently race an ATV (660 Raptor)in harescrambles and GNCC's. I want to try racing on a dirt bike. I have 10 years experience racing on quads. I am 6'1 220lbs. My main question is will the 03 WR250F have the power to lug my big ass around a GNCC type course? I would like the best handling bike with enough power. I want to keep the engine as stock as possible. I think the 450 would work, but I am unsure as to how soon I will be able to handle the 450 on the course where I could be competitive. The 250 sounds like a good idea, I could throw it around more. I have to make the right choice, the first time b/c I am expecting my first baby soon and new bikes don't come cheap. I race the big 660 Raptor now, and at times the power is a handful in the woods. Not to mention it is heavy as hell. So the 250 looks good to me short term, but the the 450 seems to be the better choice to race for like the next 3-5 years. What do you think?

It means you should do a search in this forum and the Thumper forum. Both will give you a lot of results about both bikes and plenty of info for you to make a decision.

I think you should buy a two stroke.......KTM 300 exc.....Gas Gas......Husky WR250/360. Why??? Because you still can.....
Truthfully get a ride on both one has heaps more power thwn the other....but in a GNCC race sometimes less is more ie you can flog the 250 all day and use it to its limit. The 450 will be more of a handful and harder to ride flat out all day. Depends on your ability. As witha new car....ride both and the answer always becomes much clearer.

Both will be great bikes. The choice comes down to how tight arte the trails you will ride. In very tight woods the 250 should be a little faster and in more open terrain the 450 should be fastest. Personally I like the 450 for those moments you need extra power. THe Wrs can be a bit porky compares to some of the exotics. You should check out the Huskies, KTMs, VORs, and Husabergs as well. Most of these bikes are not released yet anyway. Ride this summer and check out the 03s in a couple of months.

I have ridden the wr 250, it was modified nicely and was comfortable as heck. In the woods it had more than enough power, in the open it could have used a little more oomph! Another suggestion is the Cannondale E440, WOW what a nice bike! Plenty of power and suspension to die for, and it came stock with enough aftermarket parts to make your head spin. Beautiful machine!!!
