Final Decision: XR400 VS. KLX 300/400

Hi Everyone:
Well, I have done much questioning, deliberation, and research on which trail bike to get. I am a beginner of 5' 8 1/2" height and 168 lbs. weight. I want to do just trail riding but I want a bike powerful enough to learn on and grow into without having to purchase a new one for a long time.

After the exhaustive research as I mentioned above, I have narrowed my decision down to a new XR400 or KLX 300 (possibly 400). I would appreciate any feedback you all could give regarding the best choice of the two based on your personal experiences and insight you might have gained from others.

Also, is it more desireable to have a liquid cooled cooling system as found in the KLX series of bikes or are air cooled engines, as in the XR 400, just as reliable. In other words, should type of cooling system have a big impact on my decision?

Any help you all could give me is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Plus there is a lot of good information if you search for it here and in the Thumper forum.
