Guys check out these phots curtisy Of John Lakovich at Palo Verde Suspension. John sent these off to me today as he got his paws on the CRF first this year!
The new Showa fork has some intresting fetures. The first being this giganitc ... No colosial.... 33mm passive piston! Whats more interesting is that the rod and midvalve remained the same size.
So why the larger diameter? When the od of a valve is increased we can maintain the same pivot diameter, increase the low speed and not pay a price with a overally progressive valve stack.
Also looking at the check valve mechaism something should jump out at you. That is a very small clearnce between the plate and the washer. Whats the reason for this do you conjecture?
There has been a trend towards return cicuits with larger areas, and smaller lifts (with sufficent overall area) to imporove any lag in check valve closing. This aspect is something that we've been working with exstensivly in midvalve and rebound work in roadrace and recently in MX.
Anway I'll keep you posted as we learn more.

Jer

What controls the checkplate, is it a wave washer or a spring?

A spring controls the checkplate. It is just a deep cuped washer with relatively the same size spring as last year.
