I've been riding street bikes for the past 3 years, and have decided to give that sport a break for a few years and get a dirt-bike. I have a friend who bought a 2002 TTR-225, and i ride it alot with friends that have 4-wheelers. That is the only dirt-bike i have ever ridden, and it's cool, but sometimes I want more power and better suspension (Ever try jumping a TTR????) :scream:

I wan't to get the right dirt-bike for me, and am trying to decide bettween a Yz250 or Yz426. The problem that i am comming across is do i need the 2-stroke or 4-stroke.

I will probally be trail-riding alot, and sometimes riding on dunes. I've taken the TTR on dunes before, and that was fun riding on sand. Creek riding will be in the mix also. I have

What's the ups and down's of 4-strokes, vs. 2-strokes??????

4 strokes have lots of torque all around, 2 have a harder hit around the mid to top end. If your going to be mostly trail riding go for the 426. You wont be disappointed.

Both YZ250's and YZ426F's are great bikes. It really depends whether you want to go 2/4 stroke

With 2-strokes you mix the gas and oil, 4-strokes you gas and go. 2-strokes require top-end rebuilds, 4-strokes need the valves adjusted. Most 250 2-strokes hit hard in the upper midrange, and can be hard to handle for less experienced riders (I'm not implying you can't handle one). 4- strokes have a smoother power delivery, but most are heavier and can be hard to handle in tight places (trail riding). You may want to consider a YZ250F. It has alot more power than the TTR225 you have ridden, is lighter than the 426, and cost less than the YZ250 or 426.
