Rear Spring Rate

I have a '02 KX250. I cannot seem to adjust the preload correctly. I have it backed off almost to the end, and it still seems to high for me. The balls of me feet just touch the ground on flat pavement. Do I need a lighter spring for my size/weight (5'9"/160lbs) ?

Also about how much does a spring cost? Kawasaki does offer a lighter spring so if I need it, I hope it dosen't cost a fortune!

A 4.8 spring would fit you better. Most springs retail around $90-100

I checked with my local dealer and was quoted $107 (from Kawasaki) for a 4.9. I kind of figured around a hundred bucks, not including the install fee.

I looked at it and I don't think I can change it without special tools. Ya think a dealer shop can do the swap, or will I have to send it away?

It doesnt take any special tools-the bottom collers separate once you loosen the spring off using the large knurled nuts at the top.

Peice o cake.. Thankfully its not a showa.... Everyone used to try to put the collar in upside down..

OK! I see now. The collar has an opening that allows it to pass through the shaft on the shock. But don't you need a spring compressor?

Just loosen the collars on the shock body until the spring is loose enough to lift off the collar on the shaft.

Well, today I ordered a Factory Connection spring for 92 bucks. I can't wait to try it out. Thanks for the help guys!
