I'm 16 yrs old and 5"11. I've got two rides on an old yz125 under my belt and am looking to buy my own bike(those 2 rides are the only experiance i've had on a bike). Would the yz250f be a good beginning first bike and if i do get a bike i want to use it for 5-6 yrs before i get another bike. Thanks for all the help in advance.

We're going to need some more information to be able to tell you what bike is best. First off, how much money are you willing to spend? Next, where will you be riding (fire roads, trials, woods, mx, I-95)? No matter what the answer is, I think it's best to get a less powerful bike to learn on for a year, and then step up to a faster machine

I've got $12,000 australian dollars which is about $6000 american dollars. I'll be riding trails and Mx tracks and i won't be able to get another bike in a years time. :whiner:

You can basically just about get any Dirt bike u want for 12 grand mate, Apart from some KTM's.
The XR250 is a good bike to learn on, but you would move up from it in about 12 months and its not too good for that MX track
YZ250F is a very big bike, you boing only 5.11 you would be able to touch the ground I think, but if its your first bike, you may find it a bit big.
I wouldn't get anything bigger than a 250 for a first bike. Go around to shops etc and have a sit on diffrerent bikes, how you feel on them etc

oh yeah, i suggest an xr250. you can either sell it later on for a bigger bike, but it is big enough to haul your 145lbs around for a while.

That the thing my mum is paying half ( which means i have $6000). If i get another bike i will not be allowed another. I'm thinking the yzf will last me a long time. :silly:

Get the YZ if you are going to motocross or get a WR and derestrict it for more of an all purpose bike. I am of the opinion that a bike is only as fast as you ride it. Use a little throttle control and you will be fine.
