I'm thinking about selling my 2000 DRZ400 and picking up a 1997 yz125
with an enduro kit on it, its mint. before buying my DRZ I had a 1990 WR250, is the 1997 yz125 as good as they say it is ? Thanks Borsy

What do you ride? MX? Woods?
Posted by: borsy---------------------
70% woods, 30% mx, I'm 40 yrs old, 190 lbs, I love the power of the DRZ
but it's weight does get to ya after a few hrs if riding hard. I'm thinking
of riding the YZ125 for a few yrs then passing it on to my son who is 12 and
rides an kx80 pretty well. I'm very sure i'm Gonna do it unless someone
says the YZ125 is not at all a woods bike. Thanks Borsy

Borsy, I'm going to say that you shouldn't do it. At your weight in the woods, the YZ125 will seem underpowered. 125's are never torquey bikes, and you'll probably have to keep the bike in the powerband almost all the time. Just my thought

If you like the power of the DRZ you should at minimum get a 200 cc 2-stroke. 125s are a little hyper for most in the woods.

I agree with the above, I wouldn't do it if you ride that much woods. I have the DRZ and I would die without the torque!!!
Look into a KDX, or a KTM200 would be good too if you're looking for a lighter bike.

Since they closed my thread, I guess I'll have to ask the same thing here (again). Don't you just love forums about "what bike do I get" that close your thread about "what bike do I get" because it's been discussed before?
Anyhoo, I want a new dirt bike. I'm an experienced rider. But, I've never owned a 2-stroke. I want the snappy power and quick handling of a 2-stroke, but dont know which cc to get, 125 or 250. I want to do aggressive trail riding with the occasional mxing (jumps). For someone who is 6 ft. 150 pounds, what cc would be best? I've heard about the possibility of fouling plugs on a 2-stroke if you don't ride them hard. Is that true? If so, mabey I need a CRF450R to handle the inevitable low-rpm trail riding. Could someone please elaborate on that for me. I mainly want something to raise hell on, cause I will be riding with my cousin who has a 97' CR500. He just got married so we will see...

Thanks for the replies, I would miss the torque for sure, Just
took both for a ride again last night, The newer 125's are
pretty impressive as far as powerspread, But I think I would
regret it, My DRZ is like riding a couch, it's what makes me still
enjoy riding at 40, I think I will keep my eyes open for a KDX
200 for my son and keep the trusty DRZ, I appreciate your help.
On the track or in the trails but always smiling on 2 wheels. Borsy
