any bikes selling?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Seems like folks are having a tough time selling used bikes of late (including myself). The ecomony that bad? or are expectations too high? My couple of examples:

2001 KTM MXC 400 - very low miles great condition - $4700 (no bites)
2001 Yamaha FZ1 - 1700 miles $6700 (1 visit and guy told me he could get a new 2002 for $6800) (this bike retails for $8400.00)

Luckily I don't have to sell and don't plan to lower prices. With the price of used bikes - who the is buying new ones?

When I look through some of the threads - it appears to be tough. It looks like many good used deals can be had!

Any thoughts?

Jap 250s are going cheap around here , new `02 models for under $5000. I would have a tough time passing those up for a used bike if I was buying right now.

My GSX600F Katana has not even had one bite in the two weeks it's been in the cycletrader. I am asking lower than book with over a grand in fresh upgrades. Might trade it in W/O extras and break out about the same as if I sold it for less. We'll See..........

I've noticed that too. I think everyone is waiting on new bikes nowadays. I know a guy that just sold a 2000 or 2001(cant remember which) CR250 for 2500 bux. Guess what he bought to replace it with, yep a CRF450
Alot of companies coming out with new and awsome bikes for the buck.
Now is surely a buyers market.

Here in Wis they were really moving slow. We had my sons 2002 YZ85 at our local shop for 1 1/2 months with not a look then last week it sold. When I went to pick up the check they told me they sold 5 in 2 days after a dry spell of over amonth only selling 2.
Whether coincedence or not the day they started selling was right after the heat wave broke and we got a couple cool days.

hey is your 400 mxc still for sale????

Posted by: sspmxc400---------------------

I haven't sold it yet. I believe you might be interested in no more than $4500. I have come to the conclusion that I will sell it but for no less than $4500. If you are interested at that price - e-mail me at pomberts@aol.com.

Thanks

Maybe all those financing incentives from the bike makers has something to do with it. I'm a bottom-feeder and buy used stuff that usually needs work of some kind, but if I was looking at either a new bike or a 1 to 2 year old used bike, those dealer incentive deals would be very attractive.

I just got a quote from a dealer for a 02 TM 250 Enduro for $5500 new. Does that sound like a good price?

Believe me when I say that the Dealers are feeling the crunch too!! I just picked up a Brand New 2002 Yamaha WR250F from a dealer at his cost! I bought the bike out of speculation that I could make a few bucks and help him at the same time - so far that hasn't happened but it has only been in my garage for 24 hours hahaha...
I have the original receipt from Yamaha to the dealer showing that he paid $4800 for the bike plus taxes, he sold below total cost, eating the taxes (I could have bought more at cost but I decided to wait and see how this one pans out for me) and I am asking $4950.
My local dealer sells this same bike for $5700 plus $225 prep and 6% sales tax. I will keep you posted as to how this all works out - it could prove interesting!!

I have had both of my bikes on twice and not a bite to be had. I have a 98 CR-500 that has been rebuilt with a good bit of after market goodies as well as spare parts and no bites at 3'200. Blows My Mind.

So Woodsy, what your saying is that your making 150 bux on the whole deal. Dont seem like it would be worth the trouble to me. Funny.

Posted by: CrazyTed---------------------

Yeah, no bites on my mint 98 KTM either...

Sorry boys, I think this one has run long enough.
