Broke my finger a while ago, the physio had this plastic stuff, drop it in hot water, mould it around your finger, trim the edges and instant splint/cast.
Apart from a little pressure on the joint/screws it felt good, and protected the injury from the majority of knocks, some still hurt a bit.
On a side out, while out trail riding with the injured finger, I met another fella out riding, same injury, same finger, same doctor, cracked us up.
Also should say that this was my little finger, could see it being a bit more difficult to ride if it was my index finger , good luck.

I busted my finger and still messed around on a track. I didn't race with it though; But that is because I didn't really race often then. But I sure would have

which hand? right hand I'd sit out. left hand race. I seen you ride you never use the clutch any way, just kidd'in about the clutch. I've had many hand injuries over the year's, mostly thumbs. I feel the bone heals quickly, but the pain while using it take forever to go away. just last week I injuried my right middle finger center knuckle. it was pinched between a 3/4" breaker bar & a cement pad talking about hurt! I rode evart wedensday. finger still stiff and painfull , but no worse. :thumb:

Well as it turned out, i ended up racing the jack pine with that busted finger. it was the index finger on left hand. Put a finger tip sorta splint on it that i bought at Wal Mart. Put the glove on and taped splint over it. Was not to much of a problem, but was a factor. Ended up seizing my bike up have way through the race though (about 80 miles into it). As i was waitig on parts had to sit out the Harrison (national) race. Just got bike back together last night (had to send cylinder off for a replate.) so not much riding since.

But...tomorrow AM i head for Roselawn IN for a race...that busted finger not a problem at all now. Problem i do have is that in the X-Rays for the busted finger there was a dark blob on the knuckle of my middle finger left hand. At this point they are calling it a "unicameral bone cyst" - in other words a hole in the bone about the size of the tip of my little finger. Doc described it like a piece of dry rotted wood...on the surface looks like wood..but you poke at it...nothin solid there. Surgery is set for 9/3 - they will scrape the hole clean, and do a bone graft with bone from my hip. (every one tells me the more painful part will be where they harvest the bone from) They are gonna do a biopsy as well to make sure nothin malignent. (i am crossing my fingers!)

Of course when i asked about riding prior to the surgery, Doc was not real encouraging. But he did not push it real hard and simply said that knuckle/finger would be very easy to break...so if i ride to protect it. So i have another splint worked up that seems to not interfere with clutch...yet protects it pretty well.

I figured that given the MANY times i have crashed in the last couple years (thats the likely time period the cyst developed) and I have never had a hand or finger injury...what makes me think I will now? Not to mention...when a doc sits in an exam room with you and uses every word other than that "c" word until you ask for the straight scoop ... suddenly getting in a few more good rides (and hanging out with family etc) seems more important. I wont be able to ride for several weeks after the surgery ( I am hoping 5 1/2 is long enough...thats when the next race is in D-14!)

So do yo guys think I am nuts to ride with this new finger issue...or just go for it?

70 marlin... If that finger of yours is doin OK.. are you going to be up this way for the MCCC ElkHorn Trail Tour 9/7 and 9/8? Its practically in my back yard...i wont be riding but will stop out there for a visit. We should meet up.
