Mobile 1 new formula?

Looks like the Mobile 1 15w50(red cap) formula has been changed. Their new Super Syn oil is now SL classification. I've been using the Mobile 1 in my XR400 with no ill effects, like countless others. My question is: are we gonna be able to use this new formula without it screwing with the clutch, or does it now have the friction modifiers in it that we try to stay away from?

I have several friends that are still using the new formula in their 2001 YZ426's with no problems.
One Mobil engineer says its ok to use it in a wet-clutch and another says its not, so who are you to believe???
I still have several bottles of the old formula and going to look at Walmart to see if I can find some more.

Hey Rick, I may look around and try to find some of the older stuff too. I too have seen posts saying the new stuff is ok to use then others that say it's not. Guess I'll give it some time and wait for more feedback from people using it. Til then I may go back to using the Honda HP4.

I agree with you. I know that MX4T is over $7.00 a quart.
Wish they could leave something that is good alone for us bikers.

The reason that they say no is because they want to sell MX4T for $7.00 a bottle instead of 15W-50 for $4.50 which works just as well. The new formula is fine, as long as you only use the 15W50. Don't use the 10W-40, 5W40 or 0W30 as they all have those dreaded friction modifiers. Te 15W-50 is fine though- no friction modifiers.

psst....Dont tell anyone, but I ran the 10w30 M1 with the dreaded friction modifiers and my clutch didnt spontaneuosly combust! On the contrary, I thought it felt better than the 15w50. Keep that a secret though,lol. BTW the 5w40 delvac doesnt have FM's. Only the 0,5,10w30's do.
