My mom is japanese and I was born and raised overseas in primarily japanese and chinese speaking countries in european schools so I lucked out. If you are fortunate enough to learn secondary languages while you are younger, I believe that it makes it easier for you. I was raised speaking english (primary), japanese, mandarin, french, italian, german, latin, and spanish. I have promised myself the last year or so that I would teach myself russian, I love the way that it sounds.

The only problem is, having spent the last several years on the east coast, I have had little opportunity to use them, and it is far too easy to fall out of practice.

Living in Canada, we are made to take a second language in school. I took 5 years of french, but I can bearly put together a full sentance now. And it's only been one year since I stopped taking french in school. GETMETOCA can speak a little french.

Posted by: KiDX---------------------

I took three years of french in school, but I don't really remember that much.

As for actually communicating in it: Je ne sais pas.

Posted by: Okiewan---------------------

Pokie does... French and 4 or 5 others, fluently.

Posted by: KelvinKDX---------------------

I lived in France for 4 years (age 12 - 16). I spoke French quite well but in not using it for some time i now have a difficult time speaking but can usually understand quite a bit.

DangerGirl - I admire you!

Le contrôle est une illusion.

Thank you fatty_k, but it is very very little!

I'm trying so hard to learn how to converse, but it is not easy at all. I was lucky enough to be working with a Frenchman these past two years and he was recently promoted to Chicago so I lost my source of conversational practice Now I just have books and tapes. Pokie and fatty_k try to help me out now and then too!

Jaybird!! I did not realize you spoke French fluently! Ahh, another victim...

Hey guys now thats not fair I cant understand what your saying. Just wait I am taking French this year in school. You have to take one foreign language but our school only offers French and Spanish. Oh well.

Posted by: XRpredator---------------------

Je ne sais pas parler français, mais vous pouvez toujours aller à l'altavista et utiliser leur traducteur de babelfish. Ce que l'estacade à claire-voie, il est un bon emplacement pour employer quand vous devez traduire la substance comme ce website de Maico.

huh?

Posted by: clutchcover---------------------

No hablo frances, pero hablo espanol. OK, no bien, pero un muy pocito. Donde esta la casa del taco? Perdon mi espanol horrible por favor. Four years of spanish and I can't remember a darn thing

Posted by: crkid---------------------

I took French for 2 years in school, I may have learned something if the teacher wasn't out of his mind.

Writing it is a tottaly differn't matter!

Posted by: biglou---------------------

Uh, I can curse you out something fierce in Italian. Does that count? Now my mom, she is the curse-out MASTER around the parents' house! (I'm not kidding...) Plus, you gotta decifer the occasional Italiano that she throws into her everyday normal conversation just through force of habit. Sometimes strangers will look at me with that "What the heck did she just say?" stare, and I'll have to translate. Of course, some things are better left untranslated, ifyaknowhatimean! :D

Pred,

Posted by: WoodsRider---------------------

The only French I know I learned from a group of locomotive mechanics at a strip club up in Montreal. I don't think it's something I should repeat on this forum.

Posted by: XRpredator---------------------

Jaybird, je n'ai jamais parlé un lèchement de Français. J'ai pris très peu espagnol dans le lycée junior, mais ai oublié tout que j'ai su à son sujet. J'emploie juste Babelfish pour me rendre le sembler futé!

Posted by: calamari racer---------------------

I know a little pig latin.

Posted by: MXbabe---------------------

I can talk gibberish (sp?)

Je parle francais tres mal!!

I used French class as a time to catch up on some well needed sleep. I did manage to learn a few choice phrases through osmosis.

Posted by: TwinSpar---------------------

I used to be pretty close to fluent in spanish. Moved away from the southwest and have lost some of it. I can still get by in conversation fairly well.

Posted by: a454elk---------------------

I can speak German. Farfrompoopin means constipation.:D

Posted by: clutchcover---------------------

Yep mxbabe you nailed it. Twinspar, it's good you still remember, I have forgotton so much it isn't even funny.
Elk, I to can speak a few phrases in German. Fourfignewtons means it's not a cookie, it's fruit and cake, and everyones favorite, farfrompukin which means college student.

Posted by: biglou---------------------

Let's not forget the word that all dirtbikers should know when reading their manuals in the German section: "Ghudentite", which, loosely translated, means "proper torque"...

Posted by: Fe_princess---------------------

I know enough French to get out of jail.
Ich kann etwas gut Deutsch.
And I studied Russian in college. I don't have cyrillic font on my computer otherwise I'd try to impress you all.

Posted by: DangerGirl---------------------

okay, this is off on a tangent, but I remember resetting the preferences on the printer at work to "cyrillic/landscape/italic" and just sitting back to watch people print stuff out.

Posted by: JPIVEY---------------------
