Want to get into trials.

I've always thought trials were cool, and I've never been a balls out throttle type (MX) so I think I want to try it. Now the problem is I'm in NJ. Where can I find a cheap bike to practice on, then where can I ride?

DBeast, I'm interested in trying the trials game too. If you find anywhere to try it or take a lesson, let me know (i'm in NJ too).

Try local clubs. Check with dealers in your area they can usually point you towards clubs or people that will help get you started. If you see a trials bike in the back of a truck flag the driver down. Motosoup.com usually has a good selection of used bikes. Trials Action is a good source of information. It takes a little more effort to break in to the trials cult but it's a blast!

I just remembered a dual-sport ride that I did last summer, in Pennsylvania. I think it was hosted by a trials club called the "Dirty Dabbers Trial Riders". Maybe I can find more info on them somewhere, I'll see what I can find...

Thanks for the info so far. I sold m DR650 when I got here, it was kinda worhtless in the sand. The only problem I see with trials is it would all be fake obstacles, not many rocky areas within a thousand miles.

You might want to try here . He is in NY, but I am sure could point you in the right direction. Patman is right, it is a little tough to get into (only because of the sports small size), but well worth the price of admission. The friendliest bunch of people you will ever meet.

As far as terrain, I am sure you will be surprised, as you can ride these things almost anywhere and have a blast. Big rocks are just one aspect.

ps. I also have a couple of real good used bikes for sale, if you are interested PM me.

Dbeast, you are in luck,a few of my buddys ride trials and live in nj.there are plenty of rocks in nj unless you live down the shore.if you would be willing to drive up to the lakehopatcong area i can hook you up with a few freinds that would love to have you join them for their weekly sacrafice,i mean practice session.they also have the lowdown on good local used bikes and dealers. you can email me at shawntxt280@hotmail and i will give you a # and name of a guy that can help you out.BTW belive it or not but nj has some of the best trials riding on the east coast if you know where to go.

I'm in the same boat, except for the fact that I already hooked up with some trials guys. I got to ride last weekend and had a blast(borrowed bike).
My KTM is for sale I am buying a trials bike! (1500 to 2200 bucks)
I am totally hooked! Hook line and sinker! It was the most fun I had on a motorcycle in years. Will trade my KTM too!!!

Bagger, you have mail.

Thanks all. Now to find an older (read cheap) bike in good shape.
