Chain Guide question

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: Gomes-nz---------------------

I recently brought a 1991 KDX200 which has a 47T sprocket on the back. However I was told by the previous owner that the bottom slider of the chain guide was removed as it won't work with the large sprocket. However in my first Enduro, the chain came off, after being disloged by a larget stick. The chain was forced below and out of the chain guide and then off the rear sprocket.

Question: should the standard chain guide fit, it is now bent and I am considering an aftermarket replacement. Does someone make an aftermart one that will fit a 47T sprocket.

Any ideas ??

tks Darrin

The standard aftermarket replacement is the Fredette chain guide. Very strong. I don't know about a '91, but my '96 has a 50T rear and the Fredette guide works OK.

I just replaced my broken stock chain guide with the fredette guide. Very strong! As for the 47 tooth sprocket, that is what came on my '01.

BRush - what fron cog do you have? I am running 12/47 to allow 108 link chain.

My 1994 KDX has a 49 tooth sprocket & a Fredette chain guide.
There is a post on this forum regarding wear on the sides of the chain (my master link clip has to be replaced once or twice a year), but it is still the way to go IMO.
