Axo

Whats the proper way to pronounce this. I always thought it was A - X - O. Each letter pronounced individually. I recently heard an announcer on the tube say it AXE - O. Any one got an answer?? and while we are at it. I've heard ACERBIS pronounced a - sir - bis and a - chur - bee's.

Posted by: Kawidude---------------------

I can't remember which magazine it was in, but a while ago they had the pronunciation as "A-CHAIR-BEES." I've always pronounced the other one as Axe-Oh. Not sure if that's right though.

Posted by: fatty_k---------------------

I say A X O, every letter. And a - sir - bis. I think a chur bees sounds a little goofy.

Posted by: BSWIFT---------------------

Acerbis web sit shoes the pronunciation as "chair bees". Not sure on the AXO.

Posted by: Okiewan---------------------

A.X.O.

In Italian, a 'C' followed by an 'E' or an 'I' is pronounced "ch", like cheddar. 'C' followed by an 'A', an 'O' or a 'U' is hard, like car. 'CH' followed by any vowel is hard, like charisma. And when the 'CE' or 'CI' is preceded by an 'S', it sounds more like shave.

So next time you go to your favorite Italian restaurant & start with a bottle of chianti & some focaccia. And when the waiter adds up the check wrong, you can say "Porca puttana"

The official pronunciation of Acerbis is "uh-chair-bees". I watched coverage of a desert race that was sponsored by Acerbis, and when they interviewed Mr. A himself, that's how it was pronounced.

i guess that answers that!!

thank you!!

Posted by: yz250roost---------------------

i always say AXO- the whole word not just the letters, axe-oh, always thought the guys saying A.X.O sounded weird, but hey maybe it's just a california thing! ya never know.

Posted by: zcookie49---------------------

AXO's web page says the name as "AXO" , one word like ax-o...
i used to always say A-X-O too. but no longer, Axo is fine with me... cant get used to calling acerbis ah chair bees, still call it a sir bees....i dont care about that one....

What about Wiseco? Is it WISE-co or why-SEC-oh?

Posted by: High Lord Gomer---------------------

I'm pretty sure it is wise-co.

How about Gaerne? (I just ordered a set of their boots from MXSouth)

Posted by: _SOLO_---------------------

I always thought it was garn-yay.

Posted by: n8MX---------------------

I think Wiseco is "why-zeh-co" and Gaerne is "ger-nay." I've never heard A-X-O, only Axe-oh.

I asked Jeff that question when ordering my boots- he said "Garnay".

And I just had a great idea- I called AXO. Erin answered the phone "Thank you for calling AXE-Oh, how can I help you?" I said "You just did, Erin. Thanks!"

Posted by: Okiewan---------------------

Wiseco is wise-co. ... believe me, lol.

I am pretty sure it is just prononce "GARN" it's a Norman name coming from NW Germany that is a product of German and French. Heinrick([German]sp) or "Henry" is pronounced just as it's spelled, for the last both "e"'s are silent.

Like I'm gonna take German & French lessons from an Irishman

If you call their numbe the ansering service says Garn-aay

But what I really think is you pronounce them all like this...

whogivesarip just say what you like. 8*)

Friend,
I was stating as to how it is pronounced in Europa(Europe pronounced here in the states as I am sure they pronounce it here on their Customer Service Line) Try a trip over sea's and ordering part's LOL, it's a PITA!

Phillip

P.S. Garn-ay or Garn will get you the same gear. Pronuciation is a topic that is loosing ground. Life as we know it is going to the English Language and the Metric Scale. In the US as a Kawie Tech, I know the metric scale more then the standard scale imposed by my learning in the late '70's and early '80's. Life evolves....Evolve with it!

Torsten Hallman Off Road is where THOR comes from. It's an acronym.

Posted by: yz250roost---------------------

what about the company CEET? I've heard it pronounced (seet) or (cheat)???? seet sounds right to me, but after uh-hair-bees I wouldn't doubt that it is cheat,

Posted by: canucklehead---------------------

Yah, pretty sure CEET is like SEAT. That would make sense, no?

And what about FMF? I always thought it was like FOOMFF, like the sound a campfire makes when you start it with gasoline...

Dave

I used to layout catalogs at Chaparral and learned the pronunciation of these brands by dealing with the vendors. It doesn't necessarily mean it's the correct way, but it's what we said in the industry, so the mail order dude on the end of the phone will know what you mean. (He won't if you say I wan't a Fooommoff Fatty for my YZ250).

Whoops, just noticed a boo-boo...

AXO: "axe-O"
Acerbis: "ah-chair-bees"
CEET: like "seat" but with a K (or skeet w/no S)
Gaerne: "gar-nay"
Wiseco: "wise-co"
FMF is an acronym for Flying Maching Factory -- so it's "F-M-F"

Any others?

All my life I thought Acerbis was pronounced A-ser-bis. Last year I called them on the phone and they answered, "A-cher'-bie". I hung up because I thought I had the wrong #. After about 3 seconds I had a big Duh-Huh moment! :o
