Drunk drivers

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: rickyd---------------------

This past saturday evening, my 6yo cousin was riding her bicycle and was struck by a drunk driver.. Thank God she was wearing a helmet.. She received a broken pelvic (in 2 places) and a cracked tailbone (in again 2 places) she has road rash from being tumbled under the ford bronco.. The bicycle frame split her in her groin area.. RIght now, she is in stable condition at Oakland Childrens Hospital, expecting too be there for anywhere from 6-8 weeks.. WHen she wakes up, she is screaming and is given morphine, mind you, she is 6 years old.. Sorry too be so graphic, but if you're gonna drink, please find a safe and responsible person drive you home..
Thanks,
Rick

Man, that stinks. Sure hope your cousin has a speedy recovery. 6 to 8 weeks in a hospital for a six year old is going to be torture. Idiots like that driver should never be allowed to get behind the wheel of a car.

That's terrible news. I hope your cousin gets better soon.

Posted by: Jaybird---------------------

Prayers and best wishes to your cousin, ricky.

You'd think we, as a society, would figure this thing out.

God's speed to your cousin. What a terible experence for a 6 year old

Anyone that drinks and gets behind the wheel should be shot. Plain and simple.

Did anyone get a plate # on this ****er? :flame:

Rick I am sorry to hear of your cousin. My prayers are with her and your family.

Godspeed to your cousin and the rest of the family.

My best wishes for her full and speedy recovery

I hope they caught the turd that ran her down and he rots in his own personal hell.

This little girl's innocence has been shattered by an obviously uncaring individual. There aren't enough words to express my anger in this situation, at least no words I can use here. I just hope she shows the resilience that most kids have and bounces back to a normal healthy life. And I hope her parents sue that ******* for all he's got.

THIS KILLS ME! "Don't even get me started!" my prayer's are with her!

5R29195 . This SOB was swerving all over HWY 1 on 8/31, around 9:30-10 pm. He was so drunk he could hardly keep his truck on the pavement. I wish I had my phone with me. Instead, we followed him all the way to his apartment. I'm not stupid, I didn't get out of my car. I had my wife & kids with me. I was just more concerned that he was going to hit someone else, or run himself off the road.

Ricky, I pray your cousin will recover fully (emotionally as well as physically).

I lost a friend to a habitual drunk driver 12 years ago. She saw the guy coming and pulled over onto the shoulder of the road, but he still hit her head on. She remained conscious long enough for her husband to make it to the hospital, but died later of massive internal injuries.

She lived in Shelby county, and was very well known and loved by everyone. The Shelby county DA charged the driver with murder, and I believe it was the first DUI incident in Alabama that carried that charge. He was eventually convicted, but only got life in prison. I'm not sure that stiffer penalties will solve the DUI problem, but it can't hurt.

Rick, I hope your cousin has a full and speedy recovery. That's a horrible ordeal for a 6 year old to suffer through.

Posted by: CO Dan---------------------

the penalty for the first DUI should be something like:
6 months in jail
6 month's worth of your income
6 months of really crappy community service

the penalty for the second should be:
5 years in jail
5 years income
5 years of really crappy community service

the penalty for the third should be:
life in prison with no possibility of parole or (my preference) the death penalty

And no, I am not kidding.

Until we get serious, the animals will continue to maim and kill innocents.

I am very sorry to hear about your young cousins injurys . I hope she recovers fully .
I also hope they cought this scumbag and deal with him harshly.

Posted by: OnAnySunday---------------------

Rickyd, i sincerely hope your cousin recovers fully and soon.

RM_guy, to shoot him would be too quick and painless.
This would be a good argument to bring back an old fashioned hangin'!

I'm sorry to hear this story. I hope for the best for her.

This won't be a popular statement on this board but the only absolute way to never be the bronco driver is to avoid drinking altogether. I highly recommend it.

One of my friends that I play basketball at the rec. with was hit by a drunk driver while he was on his sport bike. They amputated his left arm and leg. Now I'll never get to play basketball with him again and he will never be the same. Hope your cousin hase a quick recovery.

Thank You all for the well wishes

Now, turns out a good freind of mine was the first officer on the scene, he was comforting her and so forth

THen, he was telling me that the lady who hit Anna Lee was on daevaset and some other drug, they charged her w/a felony.. SHe wasn't able too try and run from the scene, a bunch of the neighbors surrounded her and held her til the Police got there

As for Anna Lee, right now she is in alot of pain, the doctors are unsure of whether too put her in a body cast or not.. I will keep you all posted.. Thanks again for the well wishes, i will relay them too my Aunt and of course, Anna Lee

GOd Bless,
RIck
