My possible DW magazine submission.....???

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: motohead00---------------------

There is magazine (the name of the mag escapes me at the moment) that is local to Louisiana that is free and usually distributed around the bike shops. It is more street oriented but occaisionally has some dirtbike related info. I have not checked out if they would accept a random submission or if I contacted them today they would accept an article from me. But, if they will, and I have Okies permission and the group's, I was wondering if one of you more literary types would help me with composing an article employing all the necessary etiquitte and edited for content to make sure we capture the family atmoshpere brotherhood of DW?

I would also submit it to Okie and the members to make sure all if this was accomplished should you all so require. I was also thinking I would need your help in keeping facts straight and some suggestions on what the focal points of the article should be and any other pertinent information.

Like I said, this just popped tiny mind that has been clouded by too many years of inhaling roost and banging my brain bucket in the woods, but thought it would be neat if it could be pulled off.

What do you guys think? Is it worthwhile for us and the site?
As soon as the bike shop opens I will be heading down to pick up a copy of the latest issue to find out the contact info and if it is at all possible.

I think it is a GREAT idea and encourage you to pursue it. FC22 is a freelance journalist and I bet there are some others here who could help you frame it up and check for accurate terminology.

Go for it!

Posted by: motohead00---------------------

I knew that FC22 was a journalist as you mentioned, and thought I might get her input judging from the response to this post. I read somewhere around here that she may be attending DW after all and have offered one of my bikes as a loaner for her if she attends and needs one.

I can bring my laptop and maybe do it up as the week progresses so that it is mostly, if not completely finished by the end of the week. That should reduce the time for submission help with keeping everything straight and get plenty of attendee input while there.

Thanks for the encouragement. I am heading to cycle shop in about 45 min. to get a copy of the magazine and see if any of this was possible.

There is also Moto Playground, formerly just "Playground", magazine that does a lot of MO, TX, OK area stuff. I'll see if I can get hold of Harold, the main man over there...

Posted by: motohead00---------------------

OK.... I talked to Gil, the editor, he said if I sent it in there was a 97% chance that it would get published. With that being said, here is a link to their website: The magazine is called Full Throttle Magazine and is at www.fullthrottlemag.com

Click around in it and see if we really would like a story about us to be published in their mag and let me know what you think. I would gladly do it for the one Lou mentioned above if you would rather.

Honestly, right now, I am thinking no. I would rather see something like I am proposing in some other publication. This one is really more street with a definite stint towards Harley's than I remembered when last looking at it. I like Harley's as well, but am definitely more interested in a more dirt oriented publication. And on another note, the first time I went to the website and got to the picture page, some pop up banner came up and I ignored it when I saw it on my taskbar. A few minutes later I right-clicked on it to close it I definitely saw the word pornography as I was closing it. I was doing it so fast that I really didn't get to see what it was saying, but I think I would rather skip submitting to this magazine.

So I am up for suggestions such as Lou's or any other that you might have.

Well, since swapmoto is a member and FC22 is a writer who will be in attendance, I think we have our magazine article. What do ya say, Donn?

Posted by: biglou---------------------

Here is a link to MotoPlayground. I've sent an email Check'em out: http://www.motoplayground.com/

Posted by: motohead00---------------------

I would be willing to do it or at least attempt with others help, but I guess I 'll scratch it.

:thumb: Awesome idea! could you imagine that in TWMX? With pictures edited for content of course

Posted by: Okiewan---------------------

Might want to get with Nikki too... she writes moto stuff as well.

Posted by: BSWIFT---------------------

I'm still working on some TV coverage.

Posted by: firecracker22---------------------

Count me in! Let's see where we can get this published. OK natives, is there a weekly "alternative" newspaper--something that's non-moto, more like features, arts, entertainment? They like things like this. I'm sure Stillwater would have something, or should we inquire in Tulsa and OK City? That would be nice to let the non-riding public know we don't just make noise and kill trees.

TWMX, Dirt Rider, possibly (no promises) RacerX--we'll see who we can sell it to. There's GOT to be some interest somewhere.

Now who has a good camera (digital or film or both) and knows how to use it well? Don't look at me, I'm a terrible photographer.

What about Trail Rider? Maybe?

Posted by: motohead00---------------------

Another one that came to mind was Cycle News.... I can be happy with anyone of them.

Posted by: biglou---------------------

^^^^^ MotoPlayground!!!!^^^^^^ You guys start emailing them also. Maybe Harold will show up with their Mercedes box van covered in stickers! Plus, their mags are free, unless you want to donate by subscription. Good folks, good magazine. Regional to the midwest/midsouth. Email: gonepostal@motoplayground.com (love that address!)

Posted by: motohead00---------------------

There's this on mag called MotoPlayground. Have you heard of them? I can't really remember where I heard of them but they might be one to consider.

Sorry Lou... couldn't help. That's cool with me!

I'll tell you guys what - I can not come to Dirt Week. (Didn't know about it until last week) But if someone wants to furnish me with some good, quality photography (on Kodak E100VS slide film) and about 100 words on the event, I'd be happy to fun it in the Kickstart section of the next magazine. Any takers?

Swap I will hit the photoshop this week to pick up the film You or I do the developing?

Posted by: MX-727---------------------

I'll get a few rolls too. Time to jump back to a previous life.

Posted by: VintageDirt---------------------

Dang Donn, you've got some clout. I went to the film store on my lunch hour, and there was a long line of mullet-heads in MX shirts buying Kodak E100VS slide film. I waited in line for over an hour, only to find out that they didn't carry Kodak E100VS slide film for a Holiday Flash camera. I guess someone else will have to snap the pics for you.

Posted by: Timr---------------------

I can help out with this. I've done a couple of articles for Cycle News, we can write an event report for them. Also, Racer X ill might run it either in Racer head, or that one page in the back of the mag called "Revolver"

Posted by: firecracker22---------------------

Donn, only 100 words? C'mon, I can write a sweet article in 750 if you have the room! 100 isn't enough to say ANYTHING.

Posted by: Jaybird---------------------

Question...who's doing the group photo this year?

Posted by: MX-727---------------------

Did Donn ever answer about the developing?

Posted by: oldguy---------------------

not as of yet

Posted by: MX-727---------------------

He pm'ed. Said he'd develop the film and wanted to know if we had a writer. I told him we'll get everything together in one box and I'll FedEx it to him.

Posted by: IrishEKU---------------------

OMG! Just think of the hits this place is gonna get after that is published! Donn I am really looking forward to the November or December issue! :thumb:

Posted by: IrishEKU---------------------

Any word?
Phillip

Posted by: motohead00---------------------

FC22 (with limited help from me) composed the article Saturday night after DW. I believe she emailed it Todd on Monday. Todd, what's the status, or do you know yet?

Posted by: MX-727---------------------

FedEx with two rolls of film and the article arrived at TWMX on Wednesday. Donn hasn't been here since 10/03 according to my PM tracking.

Posted by: firecracker22---------------------

Randy was much more help than he admits. He had some great ideas. My first shared byline . . .

Phillip

December issue is out and no DW'03 in it, not that I'm suprised, it looks like a 3-4 month turnaround for TWMX. Hoping for Jan-Feb.
