1987 Model Year Honda CR250- what's it worth?

My friend has an odler Honda CR250, of the 1986, 1987 model year vintage. It has a disc front brake and drum rear. It's in pretty good condition except for the fact that he seized it riding because there was sand in his radiator. When he cooled it down he was able to remove the piston with little difficulty, and the bore is pretty smooth, so I don't knwo what type of work needs to be done to it, but is it worth 400.00? He originally asked 600, but I talked him down to 400, and now I don't really know. I know for sure it's probably a better bike than my 1980 rm250 with toyota pickup shocks on the back. What do you guys think? 400 dollars a good deal, if it only needs to be honed, rebored, and a new piston, etc?

N.A.D.A. puts avrg. retail at $615.00. I'd say it's a good deal, but that all depends on the condition of other things. Brakes, shocks etc. All things considered it sounds like a good fixer upper like mine was.
Good Luck!

What's the N.A.D.A? I used the kelley blue book who said it was worth (How can they be right??) $1,350.00.... Thanks for the reply, Phil!

Irish is refering to New Automobile Dealers Association .... Although it sounds like there is a great deal of variance btwn that and Kelly, it still would be a good bike .... an least it doesn't Toyota shocks! :scream: I still have the scars from my last ride on an RM. It was a 370.
You can try and sell the zuke to Elk ....

kelley blue book value is so high because they say that it is worth that much if in excellent condition and is from a dealer or something that can guarantee the work, I think.
$400 seems good if the bike is in good condition, like good wheel, shock, lingage bearings, main engine seals and bearings good. Also good cables and clutch. Then all you would need is a bore, or hone, and new piston and rings.

'87 was the first year of the rear disc so that one is an '86 or older. the '86 was an excellent bike. the previous models weren't as good.

Sounds like your looking at about $150-200 worth of work if you do it yourself. Get the bike between $300-400 and put another $200 in it. Sounds like a good deal to me, as long as there are no other obvious problems with the bike. I used to have an '86 CR250. One of the toughest bikes I've ever had.

Anyone know where I can find an 87 CR250 motor?

I had a 1985, 1986 and 1988 CR250. The 1985 CR250 was the last borable year. I would guess that your 1986 Nickasil bore is likely OK if it does not show scoring or chipping since they are so hard. If you start looking for a new Cylinder, the 1985-1989 cylinders all interchanged, but the grunty '85 has a fatter header opening so you need the exhaust flange and '85 pipe to match up cleanly.

I just saw a LA sleeve kit for the '86 CR250 on ebay at.
