Issues with A-Loop kit for XR400?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Although I'd love to lay down some cash on a new ride, I'm thinking of instead sprucing up the old XR400 with an A-Loop kit. It basically puts a new tank, CR seat and CR shrouds onto the XR for a slimmer feel. It supposedly allows you to move further forward on the bike, unlike the stock tank.

I'm just wondering if anyone has any experience installing this kit so I know what to expect. Are there any little issues I should be aware of before installation? Thanks for any help you might provide.

Contact my brother Andy, he has that stuff on his bike and can share likes/dislikes/quality etc.

I was just thinking about getting an A-Loop tank/seat for my XR 250....... The only problem is it's a 1990

When looking at pictures comparing the 96 and newer XR 250's the tank looks similar, unlike the seat.

I was wondering if it would work

Has anyone ever done such a thing? I e-mailed aloop about (2?) weeks ago with no response.

Based solely what I've read on their web-site, it looks like the kit is only available for the XR400. I haven't seen another one available for the 250 yet. Then again, I'm not sure what dimensional differences there are between the 250 and 400. I would assume that if the kit also fit the 250, A-Loop would also advertise that fact on their site. Good luck!

Hello folks.

I have the A-Loop system on my 1996 XR250. Here are my impressions/comments:
1) I was able to save some $$$ by ordering the kit without decal (I crash too much to worry about decals )
2) I left the shrouds off; I couldn't get them to line up sufficiently well with the recessed mounting nuts in the tank. I'm pretty sure the shrouds are simply Acerbis units.
3) The tank uses two petcocks.
4) The tank is smaller than the XR250 (and very much smaller than an XR400). This may be a concern if you're planning on riding longer trails.
5) I've read numerous posts that the plastic tangs/fingers on the seat pan which engage the loops on the frame (so as to hold the heat) break/crack. Same with the groove on the tongue of the seat which engages a bolt head on the tank mounting system. But, so far, mine are holding up fine.
6) I had to do a wee-bit of filing to enlarge the holes in the metal seat tangs at the rear of the seat. Not a big deal.
7) The seat is narrow and firm. I like it.

Enjoy.

I had a kit on my 98 XR250.

No problem with installtion whats so ever.

It certainly changed the bike completely, for the better of course.

Sold the kit about 18 months ago to a bloke with an XR 400, he couldn't thank me enough.

When I sold the XR 250 a week later it had all the original plastics back on it and as a result got a million bucks for that to .

Win Win
