Might buy a thumper

This winter I'll be in the market for an 01/02 YZ250F. I know of what to look for in the suspension and chassis, but am completely clueless when it come to the powerplant. My favorite tool is a compression tester so what's a good reading? Are there a few good tell tail signs if the motor has been abused or in need of work? Anything else I should check over specifically with one of these bikes? Thanks

It usually is wise to ask the seller questions (like you're stupid). For example if he answers the question: "How often should I change the air filter" with "Air filter?", it's probably not a good idea.
