Injury Updates?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: JuliusPleaser---------------------

I haven't heard anything about Gomer's condition, or Lori's attempt to drive the big rig home. I hope all's well. If anyone has any info on injuries, epilogues, etc, we'd love to hear about it.

Posted by: oldguy---------------------

JP as of now I went to the ER Sunday night and they found a small fracture just below the knee. The swelling is way to much for any determination as far a ligament damage. I am going in to the Ortho Surgeon Thurs Afternoon to see if he can tell anything

Posted by: High Lord Gomer---------------------

I tore both MCLs. The right one completely, but I think the left one is still somewhat attached. The initial diagnosis for the back is a muscle spasm induced by a severe impact. I'm not too sure about that though, because it still hurts way more than I would expect for something like that.

I went to the ER yesterday and go to the orthopedic surgeon this afternoon.

I still don't understand how I landed on my head and tore both knees and hurt my back.

We drove straight through with the exception of a 3 hour stop south of Tupelo because of severe rain and another hour when they closed I-20 in Birmingham for an accident. Lori drove an hour and a half in eastern Arkansas and another hour when we hit SC, I did the rest. Ironically, the drivers seat of the RV is more comfortable than any of the chairs in the house!

Hope you heal up well Gomer, my thoughts are with you and the rest of the injured from DW. Hang in there bud, we'll ride next year.

Posted by: High Lord Gomer---------------------

I had to figure out some way of getting out of the spanking you and Thump were going to give me in the "A" race...just wish I could have come up with something less severe.

Posted by: Ol'89r---------------------

:scream: Dang Gomer. Why did ya go and do that?

Hope you can get fixed up by DW03. I plan on pokin ya with a stick in person. :thumb:

You too oldguy.

Posted by: scar tissue---------------------

Gomer,

What a bummer man! Hope you heal up fine. It was great riding with you while you were upright.

Thanks for letting my tour the track on the CRF450, what an awesome bike!

Posted by: RM_guy---------------------

Man Gomer, when you get hurt you do it big time

I hope you recover soon so you can ride that new 450 more.

Posted by: Treejumper---------------------

Looks like i might of lucked out some with my accident. I got a cast put on my foot today and they said if the bones would of popped out of place i would have to have screws and plates put in. Since they were relatively close to normal position i only got a cast. Fine by me since i didnt want to have another surgery and longer recoverly time. They'll re x-ray them next wednesday to make sure nothing shifted. If the bones shift then i have to have surgery. Atleast i get to miss work for 6 to 8 weeks! But it does suck not being able to walk for that long.

Almost Yamaha Blue!

Posted by: Fred T---------------------

my chapped butt cheeks are healing up pretty good and the blister on my thumb is getting better too. Do those count??

Posted by: gospeedracer---------------------

I'm thinking you were pretty lucky to avoid serious injury from a pack of angry women Fred!

Posted by: Fred T---------------------

Aimee
I'da cooked my way out of that mess had the opportunity occured. Had the secret weapon - shrimp skewers in the freezer just in case bodily harm was Imminent !

You are correct sir, although I think you will even miss work! I did anyway. Not being able to walk is the worst thing that has ever happened to me. Hang in there though and be tough! Hope you heal up fast and require no surgery.

I have a feeling that we would have been the ones getting spanked. Honestly I just wish I'd have stayed on both wheels for the race.

Heal up Gomer! and start preparing for next year.

Posted by: Tony Eeds---------------------

The "conservative" surgeon (2nd opinion) convinced me to let him put pins in the two smallest on Tuesday. If he can align them without cutting he will. Then he sticks a hatpin kinda thing in each one and leaves them for 4 weeks. No news as to how long before I can walk. Maybe I will find out on Tuesday. It will be done under local, and will only take about an hour.
I told him I had to drive to Fort Stockton the following day and he said I shouldn't have any problem. We'll see, it was kinda cranky driving out here (Fort Stockton) today. Gotta love cruise control.
I asked my boss if I could have some time off ... He just looked at me in the mirror and said ... NO :whiner:

Posted by: dave186---------------------

man, that sucks for all you guys that broke stuff. ive never broken a bone yet (knock on wood). I did sprain my ankle at DW, its fine. 380EXCman said he couldnt hardy button his pants this morning cause his hand was so sore. the doc in stillwater said to squeeze a tennis ball for therapy.

Posted by: GETMETOCA---------------------

Here you go Tony....a little memory for you. This was about 2 minutes before you took a nose dive out of the wheel chair and saved yourself with your......broken toes!!!

I sure hope you're feeling better soon!!

I probably should say it then shouldn't I. I've never broken a bone yet (knock on wood)

i'll be looking for your post on the injury forum soon. :scream:

Posted by: slo' mo---------------------

No_Mo is healing up well. He is using the helmet as a symapthy magnet for the chicks though, and the high school football boys are gonna break other bones if he doesn't stop. Worked so well his sister is taking it to school today. I think I'll bring it to work tomorrow and see if any magic is left

Posted by: motometal---------------------

ok, this is really weak and lame compared to a "real" injury, but I have a really bad cold. It's no surprise what with the near lack of sleep for a week. No regrets. It does make my week back to work a bit tougher, blowing by doze ebery tirdy secods!

Posted by: Crispy---------------------

Slo Mo, glad to hear No Mo is ok. Gotta turn lemons into lemonade somehow, right? HAHA... Hope he heals up fast. Give him my best!!!

Posted by: Treejumper---------------------

Just got back from doctors and i get to keep the cast. No Surgery!!! Atleast for now everything is still in place and starting to mend. I complained about the cast hurting alot and he said if the bones set enough by next wednesday he'll put me in a walking cast. Its soft and has adjustable straps so i can remove it or adjust the tightness as needed. I still wont be able to put weight on the foot for atleast another 4 weeks. I'm happy!

Posted by: Papakeith---------------------

Good news tj! You'll be out and about before you know it!
The nice part about the soft cast. . . taking it off for a shower or bath.

Posted by: High Lord Gomer---------------------

That's either becuase it was such a long ride home or becuase he had soemone else's pants! :o

Posted by: Txbigguy---------------------

Good new TJ. Hope you heal up quick and get back out there on your new 450. I know I am loving mine. Taking it to the track for the first time tonight.

Posted by: Danman---------------------

Glade to hear it Tree Jumper :thumb:

Posted by: PAINFULRM---------------------

Quote:
DONT DRINK THE WATER!

Posted by: Crispy---------------------

Great news TJ!
Family First - Maybe if you quit pulling trailers/campers around like you were SuperMan, they might actually heal!!! HAHA!

Posted by: Tony Eeds---------------------

I got the pins in on Tuesday and the surgeon told me to get back on my feet. Yea right, not without some happy pills. The pins get pulled in about 4 weeks and I can't ride until the first of the year.

Posted by: a454elk---------------------

Hang in there bud, you're in our thoughts! We'll ride next year for sure.

Posted by: MrMXer327---------------------

Sounds like everyone is making progress.. Awesome!
I finally went into the Doc's yesterday and they scheduled me for an MRI tomorrow. The Doc is asking me different questions in preparation of the MRI when she asks me: Have you ever had Brain Surgery? The wife jumps all over that one and say: No, But he NEEDS IT ! :scream: Is sure is great to be love
The Doc wanted to know why it took me so long to come in and I replied... Well, I guess you can take the boy out of the country, but you can't take the country out of the boy. She just gave me a confused look... Heck, I even confused myself with that response. :thumb:

Posted by: Boodac---------------------

This is looking more like a orthopedic ward. You guys were suppose to go out and have fun not take turns crashing and getting busted up. What came to mind was how bad it was being hurt and having one long ride home. Hope your all healing and next time leave the dirt sampling to the prospectors.

Posted by: Rich250F---------------------

I got my MRI on the left shoulder the Monday after returning, and went under the Knife on the 18th. Had to have the entire shoulder rebuilt. Start PT today, and Doc says no riding for at least 6 months. 4 months of PT ahead. This means I am going to have a 5 months to get ready and back in shape and used to the bike in time for DW03. But I have got plenty of time to fix up the bike and clean it, down to the bone. How am I going to make it six months, I have already read all of my magazines and seen all my videos (more then once). I don't know if I am going to make it.

Yes we had 16 hours to get home then a half hour to the ER

Rich hope the shoulder starts feeling better soon- I had a shoulder rebuild 4 years ago and it was worth it after it was done and over with.

Onto my update- Ortho surgeon still is undecided on ACL reconstruction. First he wants me to get the Lat and MCL to heal their rips and the fractures on the fibula to mend. I started PT Monday and already feel a big differance and I actually walked about 50 steps today without any bracing or crutches :thumb: . Hopefully I will get back to work next week- but I have to be able to walk and stand for 8 hours to do it.

Posted by: Treejumper---------------------

Your doing better than me Dave and you have more problems than me. I got a CamWalker put on yesterday but cant actually start trying to walk on it for another week.

The long drive home was probably the worst part of it for everyone. We had 20 hours to do but took 25 to do it. I felt worse for Shawn since he had to do almost all of the driving. I only did 3 shifts of an hour as that's all the longer i could stand the ankle being lower than my body.

MrMXer327, Hope everything turns out ok with the MRI. We dont need any more Damn Yankees sitting on the sidelines. Of course i'm getting snow this morning so looks like riding season might be close to an end anyways.

richkx250, Hope the surgery goes ok and post when it's over.

Posted by: MrMXer327---------------------

Say WHAT ! Snow doesn't end the riding season TJ... It just brings about a change in the way we have fun..... Put some studded tires on the new 450f and roost some snow !
Hope everyone is healing well... The Doc is working with me and I am feeling better already. I should be good to go by the time DW03 rolls around.

Posted by: MrMXer327---------------------

News is not good from the Doc... It is looking as though I'll be going under the knife. The results of the MRI show disc ruptures at S-1, T-5, T-11, T-12, L-4, L-5 and something about Left Disc fragrments. I don't know much about it, but is doesn't sound good to me. Anybody here been thru back surgery?

Posted by: Tony Eeds---------------------

How is everybody doing?

Doc would not take the last pin out yesterday. Wants to wait two more weeks.

Posted by: oldguy---------------------

Sorry to hear that Tony. How is it feeling otherwise? Good luck :thumb:

I have surgery scheduled for Dec 3 so I will have the holidays off and will hopefully be feeling at least to the point I am right now so I can enjoy them.

OUCH! Any more word on what to expect?

I went back to the doctor and my right knee that they thought I had torn the MCL on completely is now tighter than the left knee, so it looks like I didn't completely tear either one. I go back on the 26th, but it looks like no surgery for me!

Posted by: IrishEKU---------------------

Good News Gomer! :thumb:

I'd thought they had thrown in a Labotomy with that comment about a 62 y/o woman

Posted by: Tony Eeds---------------------

I feel alright, but the foot does bother me if I keep it down for more than a few hours at a time.
I spent Thurs and Fri at a conference and my foot and lower leg swelled up bad. It was still that way when I went to see Doc yesterday. After having to pull the other pin because I dislodged it when I fell, he wants me to cool my jets.
Meanwhile I have squirrels running through my attic (literally), a possum living under my house and all my stuff from DW sitting in the dining room and kitchen waiting on my foot to get good enough to walk on so I can get on with my chores.
I am researching track design for some property I am hoping to get after the first of the year, so all is not lost.

Posted by: GETMETOCA---------------------

You guys sound like a barrel of parts 'n pieces!!!

Tony, sorry to hear you toes are still giving you trouble, I thought you were on the downhill side of recovery!

Oldguy, that is good that you will not have to spend the holidays fresh from the operating room!

Gomer, no surgery? That is amazing considering your conditions at DW - that is great!

MrMXer327 - OUCH!!!! I hope your recuperation is not a long one.

Tree Jumper, if I put little toy motorcycles in the cereal will that make you feel better?

Oh, I thought they asked if I wanted a Bottle in Front of Me, not a Frontal Labotomy!

Besides, I saw the pics, you mean you aren't a 62 y/o woman? :scream:

Posted by: MrMXer327---------------------

Surgery date is set for Dec 3rd.... Glad to hear everyone else is on the mend and in good spirits.

You can keep the cereal, i'll just take the toy bike. Preferable one like Elk's. :thumb:

I know the feeling. Half of mine is in the dining room and the rest is in the basement getting moldy. Looks like lots of cleaning once i'm walking.

Steve, hope your back surgery goes smoothly. My mother says its not going to be fun. She's had several and didnt enjoy a single one of them. I hope you dont have to go thru traction!

It looks like Dec 3rd is going to be a bad day for several people - Oldguy, MrMxer327, and my brother. My bro is going to be having his throat roto rooted. He has that sleep ???? disorder where he cant breath.

Posted by: Papakeith---------------------

MrMxer looked pretty spry when I saw him a week ago. . . course, he was doped up on pain meds.
Get well soon Tony, Gomer, Chuck, Thump, and anyone else still nursing injuries from DW2k2.

Gomer, are you sure you don't have glaucomma or cataracts? I hear lasic's works pretty well even in elderly folks like your self.

Posted by: High Lord Gomer---------------------

As a matter of fact...a fairly fine looking 62 y/o woman! Maybe I do need to swing the ClampetMobile up that way sometime soon for a closer look-see!

Twinnie, how do I get him to stop blowing kisses?

Posted by: TwinSpar---------------------

I'm sorry... I can't respond. The response will get nuked.

You're all on your own bud.....

Posted by: IrishEKU---------------------

That's ok, I've got the feeling High Lord Speedo isn't half as bad or Elkie or Milk. All we need to do is get them to do a "Fruit of the Loom" skit at DW03.
His CRF sure would look great with some of those special stickers though

Posted by: High Lord Gomer---------------------

Funny you should mention that...years ago there was a nasty internet rumor (mostly false) that I had a FOTL sponsorship.

Posted by: Treejumper---------------------

I got to take my first baby steps since DW! It feels weird learning to walk again. Also started physical therapy today which means the pain is back. What's that saying? No pain, no gain!

Posted by: High Lord Gomer---------------------

Cool! You need to hurry up and beat that bike up so it's *in shape* for DW03.

Posted by: Papakeith---------------------

Do you get arm pump from all the stirring you do?

Posted by: Pokie---------------------

glad to hear about all the healing going on....

Slo'Mo.... did anybody ever post a good picture of that helmet???

Theres a pic of it in the for sale forum I dont think it has sold yet though.

Posted by: Tony Eeds---------------------

Well, it was 8 weeks ago today that I broke my foot.  I got the last pin out yesterday afternoon and the Xrays looked good (even to my uneducated eye).  Now I am back on the crutches only to allow the swelling to go down a bit more.  The Doctor told me I should wear the wooden shoe as long as I can stand it.  For the last foot that was 8 weeks.  We will see.

Tony

Posted by: IrishEKU---------------------

Great news Tony! :thumb:

Posted by: Treejumper---------------------

That is good new Tony! I get to go back to work Dec. 10th. Also got to go quad riding saturday and sunday, 4 wheels were better than none. The doc said i could ride my bike if i wanted to but suggested waiting afew more weeks incase i fall hard on the bad ankle.

Posted by: MrMXer327---------------------

Awesome Tj and Tony... I go under the knife on Dec 3rd... Oh Boy !

Posted by: Papakeith---------------------

Good news guys!
Steve, you will be in our prayers for a skillful surgeon, and a speedy recovery.

Posted by: Tony Eeds---------------------

I want to wish everybody going under the knife today and tomorrow the best of luck and a quick and complete recovery.

I have been OFF cructches for 24 hours!!!

Tony

Posted by: Calcaneus---------------------

Thats good news Tony! I'm sure the legs ( one anyway) are still weak but you should have some pretty good upper body strength!

Posted by: MrMXer327---------------------

Thanks for you prayers everyone,
I am home, so things seem to be going well so far. Just a lot of pain right now, but I believe most of that will go away in a week or so. Thanks again for keeping me in your prayers.

Posted by: Treejumper---------------------

Glad to hear that Steve!
