Are Comparison Sites Available ???

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Does anyone know of a site/forum that shows and/or explains comparisons between dirtbikes e.g. Honda Vs Yamaha or KTM Vs Whatever ??? Especially 2003 Models if comparisons are available?
I find it very difficult to properly decide what my next bike will be !

The best comparison you can make is by riding your own. No one manufacturer is going to provide you with something better than another. It will all be bike and application specific.

If you know what type of riding you are going to do we can help you a little but in the end it all comes to what you are able to ride and test on before you really have a better idea on what will be best for you.

I am referring to MX bikes and I would like to know a few things about each of the main makes of bike like KTM, Honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha e.g. main differences between them and where one is better and such. I am only interested in four-strokers since I want to make a start with a four-stroke, cause I am planning to use it for some cross-country riding as well and I also want to be able to modify it for Super-motard use! You think I ask too much?

No. I don't think you are giving us enough information though.

How long have you been riding? How much do you want to spend? What type of riding terrain (region you ride in)? Stuff like that.

If you read the rules you'll see what we are looking for. If you want an mx bike, what class? Sinc you are throwing in Super Motard I can assume you are meaning bigger bore 4-strokes but what can you spend? Do you have the money for a VOR?

If you are looking for a specification comparison check THIS out. Very simple to use.

As Ivan is trying to tell ya there is no true comparison to actually riding the new bikes and then matching something to your ability and level of riding.
Just curious, what kind of availability do you have to NEW market bikes where you are at, and how much terrain do you have to ride there???
Good luck, be safe.

I've been checking out the same question. Most of the reviews are for MX bikes, while I am looking for a woods bike. Trail Rider and Dirt rider give some comparisoins, but not enough depth. At local dealers I was able to look at the five major bikes. I prefer two strokes cause I get a kick out of the wild screeming power. The four strokes are more steady power bands, but you need to get a 450 tio get the same horsepower of a 250 two stroke. In the trails, weight and turn ratio/handling is the key while open areas are different. Start looking at the major coponets of the bike. Pipe seat, seat height, suspension travel and adjustments, quality of sprokets, bars etc. I think I'm going with the KTM 200 exc. I love the hydrolic clutch. The Hoda guys really tried to sell me on the 450f, but its a four stroke and a lit bulkier than the KTM. I'm 5'7" and 180 so the size is about right for me. Your size will make a big difference in which buke you choose. But from what I see, just about any of the 2003 250's are great and if yoiu like a four stroke the Yamaha WR seems to be the bike of choice (I couldn't test ride one cause everybody was sold out. I guess that says something)

Thanks for your comments everyone ! The Yamaha WR look to be a good choice for me cause I could take it to the track as well as fit it with SuperMotard wheels and is also a very balanced bike for trail riding and scrambles and such.... But I will have you advice in mind and try to test ride a couple of bikes and see which one I feel more comfortable with.
