Hi,
I tried having a search in the forums, but does anyone realise that you can't search or '2' or '4'? I also went back to feb in the posts.. Anyhow if anyone is willing to give their opinion I would appeciated it.
Ok I've been riding for about 8 months now. I'm 30, 6' , 165 lbs. Currently I been riding a YZ125 '98 its been a great bike to learn on. The terrain I ride is about 80 percent track. Its very hard and rocky, dry climate. I feel quite confident on the bike and clear about 20-30 foot jumps, but I'm getting frustrate with keeping the bike in the right gear, as the track has a lot of hills in it and is hard work. I had a go on someones thumper and couldn't believe how easy it was to ride. So I'm looking at getting either a 2-stroke 250 ( a YZ again) or moving over to a 4-stroke.
My initial opinion is that a 250 is much more hard hitting i.e. has a more instant power delivery, and the engine braking is more similar to my current bike than a 4 stroke. Even though the 4 stroke seems to be more easy to ride, I don't now if I would derive as much pleasure from it.
For MX how to people find 4 strokes?
thanks,
Wayne

If your riding a 125 now how about moving to a 250f?

Hi,
I did consider it, but after riding my friends 250 I want to go in that direction power-wise. I think a 250F would be a step sideways if you know what I mean.

The 426's and 450's have power that is just amazing...really too much power for me. I got the chance to ride a 250F and had so much fun on it. I could just leave it in 3rd gear and fly effortlessly around the track; actually I was faster on totally foreign bike than I was on my 125 ! My next bike will defiently be a 250 thumper, cr hopefully. They are just so easy and fun to ride.

Since your riding 80% track get a 250 two smoke, or a 450 thumper like my crf. I suggest if the tracks you ride resemble a tight supercross type track get the two smoke. If the tracks allow higher speeds like a traditional mx track then you will love the big thumper, the power on my bike is so smooth it wont scare ya but unbelieveably fast.

Thanks, for that,
yeah - all 3 tracks which are around here are all very tight, much more supercross that mx really. I think I shall be going with the 2 stroke. For some reason over here in Europe the new KX is 1000 dollars cheaper than all the others, mmmm now where's that phone book.... :thumb:

I also rode a friend's YZ250F and found it wonderful to ride. Power delivery was smooth and unintimidating. After 5 minutes, I was jumping better on it than my bike. It really seemed to instill confidence. Unless my skill level drastically increases in the next year, a 250F will likely be my next bike. I do wish the other manufacturers had comparable bikes to provide a bit of choice.
