any one from drn going
also any info on mileage
and track conditions

Posted by: Layton---------------------

I just did the pre-ride with Gussie on Sunday. :thumb:

If he runs what we rode yesterday it was a short loop of 8 miles and then a long loop of 40 miles. Kind of run in a figure 8. Of course we would ride that a couple of times.

Unless we get a LOT of rain everything should be rideable. We actually had a good time. Of course you had better like crossing a log or two.

I'll be there. After White City's 95 mile race I think I may be ready. Layton, is there alot of fields again, like last year? See ya there.

Posted by: Layton---------------------

Ryan,

Yes, there are a lot of fields.

As you know, I haven't rode this race for several years, but from following the leaders around on previous years I would say that it is basicly the same as before.

HI LATON CAN YOU TELL ME HOW THE KIDS COURSE WILL BE ON SAT. WILL IT BE TO DIFFICULT FOR A BEGINNER? THANKS

Posted by: Layton---------------------

BUSZBOB,

Most of the riders on Saturday will run the first eight miles numerous times. It was easy and quite fun. BUT, I don't know for sure if all of the kids are going to ride that or just the older ones. I doubt the younger ones would. They will probably ride just the sections by the Bike Barn.

I would suggest you call for info. The number is 1-815-778-3641.

i got 4 little c how did everyone else do

Posted by: FlyinRyan---------------------

I ended up 7th PRO and I think 10th or 11th overall. The first lap was not good, bent the shifter around the footpeg, shifter than came loose twice (finally meet a friend at a road crossing and got it fixed), then crashed in a choppy field and now my ribs hurt pretty good. Second loop was better after I quit riding like a sissy. I had a lot of fun, thought the trail was awesome, and it was well marked, and they even rerouted a couple of nasty creek crossing, only wish it would have been a little warmer.

Posted by: cornwalker---------------------

Hey, FlyinRyan. Quit being such a sissy.

Who won?

Posted by: FlyinRyan---------------------

Adam McKillip won by about 2 minutes.

Posted by: 121---------------------

Who is he? What series is this, was it an enduro?

Posted by: FlyinRyan---------------------

Adam, 17year local fast kid.
Series, Parts Unlimited Offroad 100 Series
Type, Labeled as a Cross Country (Hare Scrambles that we did 2 38mile loops)

I know sissy's................ and Ryan ain't no sissy. Off road poker run this Saturday at Forest City Club Grounds. Byron Il Come on down and play Nov 2nd 25 to 30 mile loop$25. 2nd loop for another $5.

Posted by: Cannonracer---------------------

If it is 38 mile loops how do you gas? My bike is a ktm 200 and it will only run 37 miles on a tank.

Where can I get more information on this? Classes and times? I'm from the area but am not familiar with this club.
Thanks,

Posted by: agitt73---------------------

cannon racer you better have your bike checked you should
better gas mileage then that i can run 46miles with some gas to
spare

Posted by: Layton---------------------

katrerron,
There are no classes, it is a trail ride. Lots of fun. Starts at 10AM this Saturday. There is a thread about the event in this forum called "Forest City Off-Road Poker Run"

Cannonracer,
Unless you are on the pipe ALL of the time you should go farther than 37 miles on a tank of gas. I used about 2 gallons on the 40 mile loop.

My race report for this event.
It was fun. Five of us senior riders entered just for the trail ride. We stuck together for most of the race and had a blast. I can't say what place we would have got because we never planned on getting trophies. Plus, we went over the rail road tracks and not under them. Gussie wasn't real happy about that. It wasn't that we couldn't ride under them, we just got tired of waiting in line. There must have been 30 bikes there and no legal way to get around them. No matter, it was fun. :thumb: We did the first lap (48 miles) and went home.

layton i dont know if i saw you or not but i seen phil converse
in the barn after the race

Posted by: Layton---------------------

agitt73,
I talked to Phil for a while before I left. Guess he got third overall. I never even went into the barn after the race. Just BS'ed with some friends and headed out.

Did it start to rain at the barn? I got down to the Erie exit and ran into rain on the way home. There were still people waiting at the bridge (Kegans ditch) before the willow trees for their riders when I went by while leaving. Those guys had a long ride what with darkness coming on and possible rain.

You younger guys probably don't believe this but this race is much easier than it used to be. I hadn't rode it in the last 8-9 years and was surprised at the amount of fields in it. It use to be that once you got in the woods on the western side of the course you ran woods for most of the way from I-88 north to the peat farm with only a few fields. I can remember riding for what seemed like forever before reaching the gas stop. (Which was really only 25 miles) Of course you would need a calculater to figer out the number of logs crossed in that distance. (some things never change)

Of course, Gussie now has the infamous Moose Run in the spring for the tough guys to ride.

Posted by: agitt73---------------------

yes it started to ran snow mix i think the course was harder last
year but mabe not because i have gotten alot better and more
experiance on the bike

Posted by: FlyinRyan---------------------

I remeber the 1st time I rode the RACE, back in 1991 it was much more woods riding. We went all the way up to Sicky's (Sp?) and crossed Rock Creek north of the Bike Barn. There was very little field, and tons more logs (if that is possible). This year seemed to have more woods than last, maybe it was the way Gussie connected everything. I'ld rather have the woods than the wide open fields.

Anyone know of a site with complete results for this event?
