I am considering a new bike. I love my KDX, but that Yamaha WR 250F four stroker looks really nice. Has anyone ridden both? Comparrisons??

I have ridden both bikes back to back. The stock WR has noticably less power than my KDX, but the suspension is awesome. I also rode a tricked out WR and it is nothing like stock. This bike had full ti Acropovic exhaust, YZ seat/tank combo, YZ timing and a bunch of other little stuff. This bike is sweet! Power is way better than my KDX and handling suspension is better as well. I would take my KDX over a stock WR 250F, but I would take a tricked out WR over my KDX.

I went on a 60 mile trail ride over all types of terrain - 1st gear to 5th gear sections. Two laps of 30 miles each. First lap on my 2000 KDX220. Second lap on 2001 WR250F. On lap #1 I had trouble keeping up with the three hot shot friends in front of me. On lap #2 I was passing them at will. On the drive home, I stopped at the hardware store to buy a "For Sale" sign for the KDX. The WR's suspension and handling are in another class. It did take me three days to learn to start the WR, but now it's a one-kick-and-go deal.
The end.

I've spent a lot of time trail riding both bikes (I don't race, but many of the guys who I ride with do and I can keep up with them). My riding buddy has the WR 250 (aftermarket exhaust, otherwise stock).
I DO NOT like the WR. It's heavy and the weight is up high. It's way too loud with the aftermarket exhaust--it's so loud it ruins the ride for the rider and others near by. It has good top end power, but the bottom end is weak; thus, you have to ride it like you would ride a 125 (which makes the noise issue even more annoying). My buddy's bike is an '01 and it has MAJOR starting problems. Sometimes it starts on one kick, sometimes in 100 kicks and sometimes never. Supposedly, the '03s are better starters.
The suspension, however, is great--better than my KDX's (stock w/heavier springs).
I personally love my KDX. It's got a nice, smooth, wide powerband along with 2-stroke snap. Yes, you have to deal with mixing gas, but otherwise it requires only minimal wrenching. It always starts without a problem (usually one, and never more than a couple, kicks on the first start of the day and always one kick thereafter) It's easy to get the front wheel up on and it's easy to turn. Without a steering damper, however, it gets a little hairy at really high speeds.
For what it's worth, my wife bought me a WR 250F for my birthday and I returned it to get the KDX. For me, I made the right choice.
