Kidney Belt Questions

Ok I have:
Helmet
Goggles
Chest Protector
Knee/Elbow protectors
Gloves
(I know I should buy some boots b/c I just wear some leather work boots right now. I also don't have pants or a jersey b/c I just ride off road anyway, I don't care how I look....I wear jeans and a long sleeve T-shirt).
I am thinking about getting a kidney belt, probably just Fox's $25 or $30 one. Anyway this is a stupid question but where is the kidney belt worn (i know it is worn by the kidneys you smart guys). Do you put it under your shirt and on your skin, over your shirt, through your pants, around you neck then pull it down 
or what? Also is it really worth it or is it just a way for the companies to get a little more money out of the "gear freaks"

it goes low on your back, inside or outside of you shirt but definitely under the pants.
It provides some back support and helps keep your insides from being jarred around.
It feels good, but put you $30 towards boots.
