whos all going also any info on mileage and location

Posted by: Weld it---------------------

Thinking about going, depends on weather...... If it stays 30 - 35 degrees
it will be fairly cold, they are using the easier 35 mile loop ran twice is what
I have heard ( via. www.iera22.com website ) this means a lot of fields
and road. It has always been a fun ride, but the swinging bridge is alot
more fun if there is more than one bike on it at a time !!!!!!!!!!

Weld it

Posted by: Layton---------------------

I'll be there.

A word of warning. DON'T go onto that bridge until the rider in front of you is off the other side. One of you will probably end up in the creek and its a long way down.

Posted by: FlyinRyan---------------------

I'll be there, they usually don't use the swinging bridge with the loop that they are running this time. Hope it warms up a little.

Posted by: Layton---------------------

Ryan,
You are right about not using that bridge on that loop. We wont be anywhere near it.

Hope it warms up for your event also. Its a long weekend when riding both events. Being cold both days wont be fun. Of course I'll dress a little warmer for your event. More fields and less pressure to push hard in the woods.

Morrisons enduro sucks!!! These guys really screw up a good enduro series. They should not let these idiots be part of Iowas series. If you want to ride a good fun race go over to Indiana for the national.

So, shall we assume you wont be at Morrison?

Posted by: wardy---------------------

Not being of the "enduro" or "hare scramble" background, I may talk out of place. but with the disappearance or lack of races I would think that anyone having the time, effort and plain pataince to do an enduro will get my respect. I tried my hand at HS races this year, i can't imagine dealing with an enduro and all that stuff.

Good response Wardy. My first question to anyone that complains about a hare scramble or enduro is "do you help put one on?". If you don't then you better not complain.

As for Morrison, yes it is a very easy enduro, but it also is what an enduro is suppose to be, a timekeeping event. I agree that Indiana is a much better (in sense of terrian and hardness) but every year I have gone there their scoring is terrible and most of the people leave before it's even done (it is usaully late into the night before it's done). I heard they have that fixed for this year becuase of it being a National.

And as Wardy referred to, there aren'y many enduro's around, Iowa only has 4 in the state. So if eveyone bad mouths an enduro, there will be one less (which in ProRacer's case he would be happy), but for most that is another event lost and another place to ride lost.

Wardy / FlyinRyan both help put on events and that is what is called "love of the sport " without people giving up their time to help put these things together where would the sport be ? I also agree that the Morrison enduro is easy as far as terrain but they still get a good turnout and it is always a
fun / safe ride that the brushpoppers put on. It's not always about being a
"national " event, but having fun. Maybe we could classify some of the people
that pass up a local events/clubs and don't support them as "idiots" afterall how many people are really chasing points nationally ?

Did you get busted at the state police road block in 2000?

Putting on an enduro is usually done for the love of the sport. Not every enduro has to be about survival, where 90% of the riders hour-out before the final check. Likewise not every enduro has to be a timekeeper. What really makes an enduro good is the club members. Are they freindly and helpful at sign-up? Do they know what they're doing at the checks? Do they assist injured and stranded riders? Do they make an effort to expedite the scoring?

At the three Morrison enduros I rode the club members acted in a professional manner.

Layton,Ryan and All . Thanks for your support. It's people like you that have kept me in this sport for 28 years. We do this for fun don't we? Our club is mostly made up of past and present racers. We like a challenging woods ride as much as anyone. But, sorry, when your standing in the middle of 2000 acres of corn fields with your staple gun and arrows it's hard to see the forest. Most likely to a man we would rather be hosting the National and riding the north trails. But due to the sale of one of our best woods sections to Chicago hunters and key land owners that want a years rest on the land........ What do you do?

Posted by: BarkBuster---------------------

Ill be there! Im looking forward to it actually. After a few technical, 12-18mph avg. enduros, I like the idea of a faster paced enduro to work on my timekeeping.

I also joined a club to give back to the sport. After working an event, I know the hard work that goes into it. We have to respect every mile that goes into an enduro because land is hard to come by in the midwest (lots of private land and farmers fields). Theres a lot of butt-kissing done to land owners for use of their land. Furthermore, if you dont like it, dont go! Use a drop.

Later,
bb

Personally I just like to ride. I do have to admit that at my age I tend to want to ride the easier events and not end up spending the day pulling my bike out of mud holes.

With the numerous speed changes (for a midwest enduro) at this years event I'm sure some guys will not be happy. I've noticed that some of the really fast riders don't want to keep time. They just want to see who can go the fastest. That is not really the intent of an enduro which is suppost to be a thinking mans sport. Time keeping and all that you know.
Hare scrambles are to see who is the fastest in the woods.

I just hope the Brush Poppers keep putting on enduros so we'll have some place to ride. Sure, I'd rather ride the northern course, but the southern one is fun in a different way.

We'll see you there.

Posted by: FlyinRyan---------------------

I am actually looking forward to a nice fun paced day. After 22 races this year and a couple 3 day rides, to end the year on a weekend of fun rides (FCR poker run) and Brushproppers enduro will be nice.

I like the speed change idea, it will make everyone pay attention. The only bad thing for me is my computer is dead again, hopefully I can find one by Sunday.

I know all about land owner issues. I had to layout a whole new course at a hare scrambles one year because the landowner didn't like the course, even though he saw us the day before laying it out. Makes you wonder sometimes if it is worth yet, especially when you get an idiot that complains that at mile three a arrow pointed the wrong way and cost him 20 seconds, and he's never put a race on. But I do it cuz of the people that come up and say thank you for a great ride, I'll see ya next year, and I love the sport.
