I haven't had a bike in fifteen years. I will ride the woods in new england. I used to ride rm and ktx 125. I'm looking at a KTM 200 exc. What's the best bike? All the magazines seem to review MX bikes. Any ideas or recommendations. 5'7'' 180lbs.

whatever you do DO NOT buy the xr 650. it is a piece of junk.. I know I have one. Buy a KTM 450 EXC. I currently own both a cr 250 and a xr 650. I love the cr in the woods but hate the 650 everywhere. I rode the KTM 450 in the woods and there is only one word to describe it. SWEET.

The KTM 200 is a fast bike and has a lot of goodies but it is a bike more suited to an intermediate or expert rider. The KTM is a bit more peaky than the other 200s. The KDX is on the other end of the spectrum being mellower with more low end. The Gas Gas 200 is said to have a more linear power spread than the KTM and I believe the Gas Gas has a lower 1st gear for the grunt work. Here are some links of KTM and Gas Gas model comparisons. From what I have read the Gas Gas may have the best of both spectrums.
