Annual Damn Yankee Dirt Rider Ride (All welcome)

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: RM_guy---------------------

Paragon has worked well for past rides but if anyone has a different place in mind, let’s discuss it. Trails and an MX track and a place to camp are really the only requirements we have.

Let’s pick a date and get this thing rolling. Last year we got together in early May and a lot of you were able to make it. Is May a good time?

So keep all your weekends clear for May until we pick a date that works the best for us.

I’m already getting excited (It doesn’t take much when it comes to dirt bikes)

If 2003 is anything like 2002 for getting together and riding, we’ll have a blast!

Posted by: Hucker---------------------

If I show up with that yellow bike, can someone please shoot me on sight? Ha ha, I'm in rain, hell or high water!!

Last year rocked, I hope Dapper brings those syrup injected sausages again. Only in the US I tell ya....

Posted by: scooter1130---------------------

I will be there, who knows, I may even be able to get a Saturday away from work and spend the weekend. :flame: There are also a few of us getting together for a Paragon ride on Nov 17. If anyone is interested heres the info

Posted by: Papakeith---------------------

What other viable options are there?

Posted by: WoodsRider---------------------

What's wrong with having more than one jamboree?

We could have more than one gathering at different places with different opportunities.

I'm planning to organize another day of trailriding before the '03 Unadilla race.

Whoa there big boy, of course we'll have more than one. This is just the first :thumb:

Posted by: Trigger1911---------------------

I am in anytime!!
is anyone up for joinung me for the Alligator Enduro in march for Daytona Bike Week?

Posted by: WoodsRider---------------------

Quote:

I would if I could. You'll need to pre-register for this event. The Daytona Dirt Riders have a maximum number of riders and the rows fill up fast.

If this is your first enduro, watch out. The trails are very tight and sandy. You don't have to deal with rocks, but palmetto bushes leave something to be desired.

Posted by: Treejumper---------------------

I'm in!!! The only problem i have with May is i probably wont get to try out my Sportz tent. That's because it wont fit in my new truck i should have by then. I was really hoping to use it atleast once!

What's the chance of having a date set before the years out? That way i can put in vacation time for it.

Posted by: RM_guy---------------------

Setting the date this early is difficult because most of the race schedules have not come out yet. The only date that is out is 5/18 because of a Mountian bike race at Paragon that day.

Hopefully there will be more insight as to race dates by December.

Posted by: Papakeith---------------------

Is this one gonna be at Paragon definitely?

Posted by: RM_guy---------------------

Yes. Since we're going to be planning more than one ride next year lets make this one at Paragon.

Posted by: Dennis Meyers---------------------

I've never been to Paragon, how are the trails there? With the new job any weekend should be OK, better pay and no more working every Saturday! I'll be looking forward to May, especially with the 2 or 3 inches of snow on the ground here right now.

Posted by: RM_guy---------------------

Dennis,
The trails are pretty nice. There's everything from wide open fire roads to tight technical stuff.

2 to 3 inches? A friend of mine was snowmobiling Saturday up north someplace (not sure where) and he said they had 2 feet of snow!!

Posted by: rv6junkie---------------------

I'm in. Just let me know what weekend so I can cross it off the calendar before the warden puts some estrogen-driven event (that I'll have to go on) for the same weekend.

Posted by: Dennis Meyers---------------------

2 feet! I don't even want to think about that. Are there any special requirements for the bike at Paragon? Insurance, spark arrestor, etc... ?

Posted by: Hucker---------------------

Nope, just bring your $$$ and you'll be fine.

Posted by: Dapper---------------------

Be there or be square!

Hucker, I think you got the wrong guy. I'm not familiar with the syrup injected sausage.

Posted by: RM_guy---------------------

Dennis,
They were at Tug Hill up near Watertown. I guess they always get hit with lots of snow even when it's warm in Syracuse.

Paragon is all private land so there are no special requirements except the right protective gear. The website has more info www.paragonap.com

Posted by: JasonJ---------------------

Sounds sweet to me . I vote for a Saturday ride so we can stay the night party then ride some more or go home Sunday, If you do it on Sunday, your liable to get some people who come up Saturday, ride, party and ,,,,,, well,,,, go home,,,, ,,,, LOL,,,, Not that I know anyting about that,,,,
Now,,,,, tell me some more about these sasages with syrup in them hmmmmmm???

Posted by: XR-MAN---------------------

I read their web site and it said something about a flag. Do you have to have a flag on your bike? I don't want that hitting me in the butt all day.

Posted by: scooter1130---------------------

no flags for the bikes.....the flags are only for ATVs and SUVs, but it is good to see that some pople actually read the regulations before heading out :thumb:

Posted by: XR-MAN---------------------

Paragon is a long haul for me, anybody interested in a mid-west location for a ride next year. I'm think Coal Creek in Oak Ridge, TN. For info go to windrockatv.com

Posted by: scooter1130---------------------

XR-MAN,

The best thing to do is to start another thread for a ride at Coal Creek, Just pick a month, as was done here, and ask what date is best for most people. There are rides at different spots all over the country, all it takes is someone to get the ball rolling, and I'm sure you could get a good ride together.

Dan

Posted by: RM_guy---------------------

Man, this thread was WAAYYY back.

How does May 3rd and 4th sound to everybody? I checked the extended weather forecast and it looks good

Posted by: dklink2000---------------------

I'll be there!!  I have know I Idea what may looks like yet, but I'll try to keep it open.  I can't wait to ride with everyone.

Posted by: Dapper---------------------

Gee, do we have to wait for May. All the snow will be gone.

Posted by: WoodsRider---------------------

I'll mark it on the '03 calendar. I think Mrs. Woods will enjoy visiting her friend in Mountain Top that weekend.

I'll probably be making it down there at least once or twice before May anyway. I'll be posting when I plan on going.

Posted by: WoodsRider---------------------

Dave - Thanks for the warning! :scream:

Posted by: RM_guy---------------------

You're welcome, you idot

Posted by: WoodsRider---------------------

Takes one to know one!

Posted by: DANIEL JOSEPH---------------------

What's an idot is that an idiot who can't spell?

Posted by: RM_guy---------------------

I didn't think he could spell so it didn't matter. I notice he didn't catch the misspelling either so there's proof he can't spell

Posted by: WoodsRider---------------------

So he can't spell, can't ride, what else can't he do?

Posted by: Timr---------------------

He's not too good at backing out of the driveway when there's snow on it!

Posted by: scooter1130---------------------

May 3-4......hmmmm kind of short notice, but I think I can make it

Posted by: Fark---------------------

I might be down for Paragon. We are all new to the sport and try to be considerate of fellow riders. We see alot of idiots where we ride... but won't get into that. I know I won't have to worry about that with you guys, right?

In all seriousness, if we go to paragon I might bring a few quad buddys. Thankfully, I steered my girlfriend in the right direction. She's the proud new owner of an 03 CR85.

Let's get this ball rolling.

Posted by: RM_guy---------------------

Is it the 4th yet?

Posted by: WoodsRider---------------------

Dave - You need to go riding!
Tell your wife that I told you to skip the next doll show so you can ride. I'm sure she'll understand.

Posted by: RM_guy---------------------

Bill,
You're a true friend.

Have a nice Christmas with the new little one. He won't remember it but you guys will

Slow Day? :silly:

Posted by: rv6junkie---------------------

Yeah, I'm quite sure that we'll have to have a pre-ride ride! I just started my winter maintenance on my KDX and I'm sure by the time it's all back together I'll be bouncing off the walls.

Gary

Posted by: WoodsRider---------------------

Winter maintenance???

I just mounted ice tires on my bike.

Charged up all the batteries for the video recorder this weekend.

Posted by: limitless---------------------

may 4th? hopefully i can make it! depending on the race schedule

Posted by: scooter1130---------------------

Is it May 4th yet....I need to ride.  Guess I will do the next best thing and take the snowmobile to Paragon Sunday.  I will take the bike along also if anybody wants to join me.

Posted by: RM_guy---------------------

Hey Dan. What's up with the MX tracks at Paragon?

Have fun in the snow

Posted by: scooter1130---------------------

I haven't heard anything new on the tracks, but I will find out on Sunday

Posted by: Chief---------------------

Hi Dave,

Last year we had a pretty good crowd 3/17 and it didn't even snow until we were leaving. It was on the cold side, but not too cold to ride.

To ride 5/3-5/4 I'd have to take work off so it's not likely I'll make it. Let me know if you are planning any other dates.

Chief

Posted by: RM_guy---------------------

Joe,
I'll be down there before the May date for sure. I'll let you know.

Dave

Posted by: scooter1130---------------------

Dave,

No date on the MX tracks yet.  As you know they were hoping to hae them done last season,  and are still having problems wih getting the tracks in.  They will definitely be added, it is just a matter of when.  They have other priorities at the park before work on the MX tracks can continue, such asdoing something to smooth out Valley Road.  It is getting really rutted and rocky, and they need an easy trail to get to the other side of the park.

Even though I had a blast ont he sled today, I can't wait for the snow to melt so I can get the bike back up there, hopefully it will be gone by May

In the mean time, if anyone has a sled and wants to join me at paragon for a Sunday ride, let me know.  But I suggest having a studded track if you want to get up Valley Road.

Dan

Posted by: atc3434`---------------------

OK, I'm stupid. Where's Paragon? Sorry for the lack of geographical knowledge. Whats the gameplan exactly anyways, just a weekend of riding? Sounds like a blast to me.

Posted by: Chief---------------------

Hey ATC,

Paragon park www.paragonap.com is in Hazleton Pa. It's on I 81 about one hour or less past Scranton. Big place. Check it out.

Joe Chief

Posted by: Papakeith---------------------

Haven't looked in here for quite some time. Have we got a firm date set yet?

Posted by: Treejumper---------------------

Hopefully it stays May 4th since i already took that weekend off for work.

May 3rd and 4th. I even hope to make it an overnighter instead of just coming down on Sunday. Of course I have to convince the wife

Oh Boy

Posted by: Treejumper---------------------

Posted by: Hucker---------------------

Definently going to be a over-nighter. I'm not driving 7 hours for one day of riding

I just hope I have a bike by then :thumb: :thumb:

What I really want to be is more like RM_guy. He is so humble but is very fast too. He's my idol but since he put a restraining order against me I haven't been able to worship him as I'd like to.
FINALLY Woodsy speaks his mind. Don't be afraid there little guy (gal?). We can't all be perfect

Posted by: WoodsRider---------------------

Wow, all that from the Nancy who was :whiner: for help because he (she?) couldn't make it up a little old hill at Paragon last June.

If your wife will let you camp out, watch out for those wild zip-ties!

Posted by: Trigger1911---------------------

Hay Woodsy,

Before you get to happy with your zip ties, remember why they call me TRIGGER!!

Posted by: scooter1130---------------------

ok, I'm confused......what do zip-ties have to do with Roy Rogers horse?

Is it May 5 yet?

Posted by: rv6junkie---------------------

Dan,

How are the fine folks at Paragon making out with constructing a "new" Valley Road? Do they still plan on having it done before spring?

I hate to see that trail change because it is a challange but I'd like to bring my son to Paragon but I know his little XR will never make it up the current Valley Road trail. For the die-hards there is always the Turtle Trail to get to the First Pipe Line.

I'm hoping to get to Paragon by late March or early April.

Ummm is it because you have a sproingy tail and hang out with Piglet and Winnie the Pooh?

Posted by: scooter1130---------------------

They hae not been able to do much with Valley road because of the snow cover at Paragon, But I don't believe they are actually changing the main line up Valley, just cleaning up the bypasses to make an easier way up.

As for Turtle being for Die-hards, it really isn't a bad trail, if you want a little more challange to get to the first pipeline, there is always "rabbit run" and "sleepy hollow" they don't even have any big hills on them.

Let em know your plans for Mar-Apr and if you want company, I will meet you up there.

Posted by: rv6junkie---------------------

Sounds good. You'll know when I want to go...the snow (and frost) will be gone.

Posted by: scooter1130---------------------

ok so I guess I will see you in July

Whaa? Did you happen to get any video of this suposed incedent with a hill? I do happen to recall a video of a real dork getting stuck on a hill...wait, that was YOU

Posted by: DANIEL JOSEPH---------------------

I got a copy if anyone needs one

No, but there were several witnesses who heard you crying like the Nancy you are. In the video of me, there is no crying only a manly expletive. Also I made it up that hill without assistance... and there are witnesses to that.

So there!

Witnesses or great film editing

Watch it DJ! Jayled will roll on you for a warm beer.

BTW - How long has it been since Bob last beat you at an enduro?

Posted by: RM_guy---------------------

TTT

Just a reminder for May 3rd and 4th

Posted by: Trigger1911---------------------

I will be there sarurday afternoon and sunday. Camping will be at the same place as last year.

Posted by: Treejumper---------------------

Are we going to need a head count for camping sites again this time? If so count me in for one spot (2 maybe 3 riders). I cant wait, going to practice playing in the trees tomorrow!

Posted by: RM_guy---------------------

Here's the web site for the campground
www.redridgelake.com

Posted by: Treejumper---------------------

Yeah i remember that, thanks. I just remember last year someone got a group discount on the campsites and i was wondering if they were doing that again this year? Or if we just had to reserve a spot ourselves?

Posted by: Hucker---------------------

Trig was the one that hooked up the campsite for us. Was a good time, I can't wait for this year...

Posted by: scooter1130---------------------

I was just at Paragon today, and the trails are passable, but still very icy(I only fell on the ice 3 times).  When you get off the trails there is about 6-8 inches of snow on the ground, including the single track.  If the weather holds out, and with the rain later this week, I figure the snow will be gone in 2-3 weeks, which will leave the park nice and muddy for us in May.

I know that some people were unsure if they could make this ride, but now that it is getting closer, I was wondering how many will be there.  I should be able to make it for both days this time around, but no camping for me.

If I could figure out time travel, then I wouldn't have to wait for May.

Posted by: DANIEL JOSEPH---------------------

Woodsrider said if I go to this I'll get to see some guy named Nancy riding around in a skirt. Any one have an idea who he's talking about?

Posted by: FLYIN_KAW---------------------

I might beable to make it now. In for the weekend overnight for sure. Just got to feel out the border. They are being very tight now. 911, now the war in Iraq. What next???? I pretty much need a Canadian passport to cross the border. I remember a time when you pulled up to the booth, the customs agent asked my citizenship. I reply Canadian EH!. " Have a good day " customs would reply. Now they want to know who you are, where you live, where do you work, where you going, what did you eat this morning, what is your favorite colour, what is your favorite soft drink, when you comming back, and then they ask you the same thing all over again in a different tone. You finally break down from stress and convince them as well as yourself you are an international spy, and are off to pee in the drinking water.
Pull over!! Get the rubber glove treatment, a quick smack on the butt, and then you decide to turn around and go back. Hell no!! not a chance. They won't let you without paying a bridge toll first. Then you get to the Canadian customs booth. He/she takes one look at you and tells you to take a few tylenol, and points you to the nearest bar. What the hell is wrong with this picture.

Posted by: FLYIN_KAW---------------------

Oh ya 3/4 is good for me if I can make it. If not sometime in June.
Hopefully I can make the May ride. If is a blast riding with you guys.

Posted by: WoodsRider---------------------

Canucks, don't worry too much about the border. I've been to Montreal twice in the last two weeks. First time they ever searched my trunk, but the longest wait I had was 20 minutes trying to get into Canaduh.

Posted by: FLYIN_KAW---------------------

ya you should see the border here over buffalo.

check out the line up going to the STATES.
