Who all survived Maplesville ?

So, who all made it? The weather turned out great. Trails weren't dusty or muddy except for occasion mud hole. Anyone have opinions on this race? Reason I ask, this was my third enduro and I finally finished one. I have been in a few enduro's and a few harescrambles. In my opinion, this was a tuff one. I'm sure some didn't have much trouble. First loop went great and I felt good about it. Now, the second one is different story. I found it to be very challenging. Nice to see Maplesville hold up to the reputation I've heard about. I was thinking to myself ... I din't know trees could grow so close together
. Overall, I enjoyed it. Didn't get a trophy, but at least I did finish it (finally). Needless to say that there isn't a muscle, bone, or joint that is not sore right now.

The trails were challenging for sure but the low temperature and good trail conditions made it a little easier. I'd have to vote this as my favorite this year.
Anybody that stayed home because of weather missed a good race.

I had a good time and really enjoyed most of the trail. The pine section at the first and the next to last really tight section were a bit of a biotch. I have never seen mile markers go by so slow before in my life on the latter. had fun, got to meet some fellow drn members, and got a nice little plaque.

Yep the Perry Mt. crew did a great job! The good cool weather and trail conditions were great.

Maplesville is my favorite place to ride and I wasn't dissapointed yesterday. Yes, it was a tough enduro, but they are supposed to be. I pitty the guys in the first 10 rows. I think that the crew just put up arrows and didn't bother to cut a trail through some sections (I was on row 71 and was still pushing over more saplings then ever before). My favorite section was the 14 miler after the gas stop. Nothing like going up, down, up, down, and then inbetween running on severe off cambers.
This one gets my vote for favorite of the year :thumb:

This was my first Enduro, and thought it was very well done! I agree the pine section was very tight and looked like it had never been riden before and starting on row 74 I was still going over newly bent pines. The better riders had no trouble and just kept passing. I plan to do it again, and next time hope to finish...

Look it up in the dictionary. Under "Enduro" you will find a picture of Renold's Pasture (the start of Maplesville).
The Enduro was actually easier this year than before. It used to be 70-80 miles long. They kept all the tough trails, but left out some easy riding this year.
I rode on row "zero". We had 5 old guys at the front. Three guys from SETRA and two of us from SERA. My riding buddy TJ had to quit due to one of his fork bolts (bottom) coming loose.
I always love this place. I never do well in my class there, but the trails are great.
You are right about the trails at the front. They were full of uncut face slappers and short cut saplings.
I managed to crash my brains out twice before the second check. Some poor tree out there has been branded by my bike and body slamming into that puppy. I was riding very well after the gas and the restart. Alas, I started to get tired and was happy to finish without being "whipped". My measure of and Enduro toughness any more is my condition after the race. This year I got tired at Maplesville, but it didn't "whip me".

alarider: were you on the atk? If so, I lined up on your right at the start. i was on a ktm200.

Yep...I was right. All that numbness is now soreness. Why are those folks at work making fun of me? It's not like I'm walking funny or moving slowly or anything like that  I forgot to tell you guys about the fella that was parked beside me. Thanks to a stump, he completely lost his "big toe" nail and the one next to it. Had them in a plastic bag. Said he done it in section 10 and had to ride it out.
I agree, I think the Perry Mountain folks done a good job. Even though I am new to enduro's, I never lost an arrow. Well laid out and marked.

This was the most fun I had at an enduro. AND it was the first one I finished after two seasons of trying. The reason I finished is because a fellow rider LIED to me by saying the first loop was going to be tougher than the second, that the second loop was more opened up. Well, after the first loop I was nice and warmed up thinking that the second loop ought to be a cake walk - Ha! I can honestly say I am glad I got tricked in to finishing the race. Great Race! Great trails!

I almost never fib but I had to get you to the finish somehow
. Congrats Shawn.

ktmracer, yea I was on the ATK. Made a classic rookie mistake and didn't check tire pressure before start. Front was low, knew on first hard turn I was in for a long ride. Took the wind out of my sails. The only place I passed riders was in the thick pines, but with low tire pressure it wore me out. We got alot of thick woods in lower Alabama. Enjoyed it anyway and will do again. I got a great pic of the start if you'd like a copy?

alarider: yeah i would love a copy. shoot me an e-mail

ktmracer, will do... Does anyone know what the most successful bike at Maplesville was?
Posted by: ktmracer---------------------
brand? size? both? i would guess i saw more ktm exc and mxc's than anything. But a gas gas overalled the race and pretty much every manufacturer was represented in some number. to be honest i prob. could have gone just as fast on an xr200 in some of those real tight sections.

I would have given a body part for an XR100 in the last section

I wonder if I'd been better off with an ax and a hiking stick. Variety....gotta love it........... :thumb:

I don't know if I would say I survived.....but I made it to the gas. Maplesville is always tough. Or at least tough for me!
Alarider, I think I was parked next to you. Gold Expedition with an XR200.
