In the bag!

"Do you want that milk in a bag?"

What in the heck kind of question is that? Why does this question get asked by every gorcery bagger, at every grocery?
Are they trained to ask this question, or have they heard it so much in their own lives that it is reflex action?

OK...I have two flames here...first for the ignorant bagger that seems obsessed with asking this question. I mean...sheesh, I realise the milk jug has a handle....but folks, get a grip here! (pun intended)
Lets look at this thing logically...if that's possible....
When we have a jug of milk, it talleys in at anywhere between 36 and 40 degrees F. Ok now if you have any clues on dew point and condensation then you will soon realise that this container is going to get wet real soon after leaving the dairy case. Now, do we really want to pack this wet container of milk to our vehicle, place it in the trunk...where it will no doubt encounter who knows what kind of dirt and grime which will undoubtedly stick to the outside of the jug...and place this thing in our refrigerator? I for one don't relish the thought of a grime laden hunk of plastic sitting with all of my food and other perishables. Real appetising, huh?

My other flame is for those of you who say "No thanks, I'll just carry it" Good Goggleymoogley folks....being an expert at carrying in groceries, I happen to KNOW that it is much easier to pack this thing in one of those plastic bags than in the jug itself...you can also add a few other bags to the fray as well if you use the bag for the milk too. If you just carry the milk by the handle, then you just carry the milk by the handle..no accompanying bags allowed, and you KNow I'm right! Besides, in the winter the thing is so damn cold you can't tell me it isn't freezing you! Too cold and the daggone thing will stick to your silly fingers!
If you agree with me, please take a few minutes at the gorcery the next time you are asked this and explain the situation to the ignorant bagger...the folks behind you will enjoy it almost s much as they do the lady who writes checks real slow!

OK, I'm done now....

You can't pack two jugs of milk in one hand? I never want that milk in a bag. That's why I have rags at home, to wipe 'em off before they get in the fridge.

I also like a big glass of milk before I go riding my DIRT BIKE. I wish I could put milk in my drink system when I ride my DIRT BIKE, but I'm sure it would sour.

does that keep this flame here, Senior?

Hi I have a DIRT bag and a plastic BIKE. Can you guys tell me which one is faster?

Posted by: Danman---------------------

No bag here, but you could have them put the container in a plastic bag then put that in a paper sack that way the milk stays cooler longer and it does not get dirty. That way it won't sour and you can put it in your drink system

I would atribute the asking to shear lazyness. One less thing you have to put in a bag.

Posted by: Jaybird---------------------

Dan, you may have a point there! I never thought about the lazy part....I believe you are correct!

Posted by: marcusgunby---------------------

It sounds like a womans job to me?

Posted by: Danman---------------------

Quick run Marcus, I saw three women running out of the womens forum with big sticks and angry looks on there faces.

Posted by: VintageDirt---------------------

All BS aside, I'd really prefer my jugs uncovered.

Posted by: Danman---------------------

Give that man a rim shot. He'll be here all week

Homogenized....pasturized........paper.......plastic.......in the bag......not in the bag......four stroke.......two stroke..........It's all relative to the consumer. Yep the poor fool asking might be a dork but the answer is still yours to decide.

Does any one know how long milk is heated to be pasturized?

...depends upon if you mean flash pasturization (seconds) or not (minutes). BTW, did you know the process was invented (slow pasturization) for beer with milk being the furthest from their thoughts? "HICKup!" "Sllllaaayyy, Jooooeeee! Itsssmelllsfineeeetoooomee...HICKupppp!"

Pasturization became popular as a substitute for dairy cleanliness/hygene in the early 1900's 'cuz of lazy farmers who did not care to "utterly" remove deposits on the cow's mamary gland...so you can have your clean, uncovered jugs; tho they require much toweling, yet lead to healthy milk.

VD Get's Nuked! Is that a first?
(No, I didn't do it)

Posted by: firecracker22---------------------

I never get asked, the baggers just put the milk in the cart all by itself. Unless I get a half gallon or a paper carton, I have never carried milk in a bag. Somehow, I have survived this long. Amazing!

Wow, I haven’t heard that in years! Is it possible there’s another FZ fan hanging around here?

Paper or plastic? I hate those plastic bags! Things roll all over the place on the ride home. However, they look at you like you’re a criminal if you request that they package your stuff in paper sacks. Gotta save the trees.

Of course, then you stop for a cup of coffee on the way home and you can’t get a Styrofoam cup to save your life. You have to take a paper cup and then put it in one of those hand protector shields to keep from burning your hands. You could probably make a truck load of Styrofoam cups with the amount of energy it takes to produce one of those paper/cardboard assemblies!

Too bad you can’t get a good cup of coffee in a gas station ‘cause you can still get a good coffee cup there!

I would say it's more of a money thing. Bags cost money so if they ask you if you want a bag for something with a handle on it, most people will probably say no, giving no thought to the dirty trunk or floorboard, saving the store a few pennies. BTW, put some ice in your drink system along with the milk.....should stay cold till you've drank it. But can you imagine how bad your drink would be if you didn't clean it completely from the last 'milk' ride.

I think it is a first. Although I did get deleted once.

Posted by: Wanabe---------------------

I used to work in a Kroger video department, but sometimes they would make me go bag too. I always asked, just becuse every other "trained" bagger did, and I had no real bagger training. :whiner:
I always thought it was a dumb question to.

Posted by: motometal---------------------

When I visited Europe, the milk was kept at room temperature in the store. Was it irradiated maybe? Seems like a lot of energy saved by not having to refrigerate it...

Watch out for those bags splitting open when you put heavy stuff (like milk) in them!

Posted by: gospeedracer---------------------

What is this condensation you speak of? I just put the milk in the car and drive home at warp speed, inconsiderately knocking little old ladies out of my way in the process, so that condensation doesn't have time to form.

Maybe you shouldn't concern yourself with such trivial things and learn to stop and smell the roses.

Posted by: Rooster---------------------

^^^^^^ouch!!!^^^^^^

Posted by: Papakeith---------------------

That stings GSR!!

Posted by: Jaybird---------------------

Ah, yes...but driving like you do, Speedy...one would have butter when one arrived home!

Life is a bed of roses, you just need to watch out for all the pricks! <grin>

Posted by: VintageDirt---------------------

How come he can say pricks and I can't say jugs?

Posted by: XRpredator---------------------

What was this thread about anyway?

Posted by: gospeedracer---------------------

LOL Wes! For the record, you're about the only person I DIDN'T nuke in this thread!

Jay, I don't know about butter, but I do like my milk shaken.......... not stirred.

I get my milk in a bag, not bcause I'm worried about condensation though. When you have two dogs that get walked five times a day, you use a lot of plastic bags.

Posted by: Jaybird---------------------

If it's any consolation, Wes...I thought your nuked post was an absolute jewel! All BS aside.

Posted by: Rooster---------------------

I'll second that Jaybird!
