Basically this is a choice between yamaha or honda but what is better for a begineer a two stroke or a four stroke? Also give your opinions on the 03 ktm 125sx ?

Need more info. It really depends on the riding you will be doing, your ability already and what you have ridden before.

If you are a true beginner I'd be hesitant on referring any of those bikes to you.

Never ridden anything before, I plan on riding woods but mostly fast paced desert and motocross. Plus I'm paying for it myself and all the other bikes are not up to the performance level I intendid to buy. Motocross bikes are not a good way to start in dirtbikes most of the time. But I'm 16 and want to get right in to motocross and performance dirtbikes, you see unlike alot of kids my parents never got me into this sport. So I just want to pick up at the spot where most kids are at who have been riding for years. As far as what size and type bike they own.

I am 15 and have a 2001 CR125. I really like and it doesnt seem like a handful to me. I have been riding since I was 7 and have been on 50's 60's and 80's before and that has really helped. I'm not one to be comparing bikes as this is the only full size bike I have ever ridden. I really like the bike and mostly ride motocross. I'm around 5'6 and thats the biggest problem I have with the bike is the height. Any questions just ask.

The key is that they have been riding for years. If you are a true beginner it is possible you will hurt yourself on a 125MX bike unless you've had some quality instruction to help you along the way. You will not hop on a CR125 and be as fast as someone who has ridden since they were 7 or 8 will be.

I personally, not having seen you ride, would recommend an XR200, XR250, TTR250 or DRZ250. The KDX200 is a great bike to learn on too and can be very competitive later on as your skill improves. There are lots of hop up parts for it. I know I've been beat in the woods and on the track by my share of KDX's.

It is possible you could jump on the MX bike and be great. However, if you have never ridden before the odds are against you. It is much better to choose a good bike that you can grow with. The XR and the KDX will hold re-sale value very well.

I know the predicament you are in. However, there is a lifetime of riding in your future so it is better to start off right and enjoy your riding for a lifetime.

I have seen a lot of people get the wrong bike for their skill level when starting out and ended up getting out of the sport due to injury (and fear).

Whatever you do, good luck and be safe. Whatever bike you buy please be sure to get as much safety equipment as you can afford. Helmet, goggles, gloves and boots are mandatory. You can get some good deals and if you need don't mind wearing used pants and old jersey's there are people who may have some stuff they will sell for a really low price.

Lastly, make sure your parents support your riding. Even though you are paying for everything their support will help a lot when you get injured, need a ride or just need someone to help you work on the bike.

Most reviews or comparasions I've read say that the yz250f is like a really power, really easy to ride 125.

Posted by: MXP1MP---------------------

trust me the 250F is smoother "feeling" compared to a 125, but it also hits much harder. Get a good used 125 and learn the fundamentals of riding first a 250F will hurt a first timer especially if you've never raced MX before. If you've gone to the races and are just watching people race take my word for it. It is much easier looking than it is to actually do it! My suggestion is learn how to ride and get the basic's down first and get a good used 125. So that way once you've beaten the poor thing you won't be as disappointed.

That sounds like a good idea ,but in that case I should just get a 125 and not even bother getting a yz250f.

Just curious what is better a 03 yz125 or a 03 cr125 as far as reliability, speed, and just in general.

Dude how many times do I have to tell you, get a USED 125 your wasting your cash if your gonna buy a new one you don't have even have the skill level yet to even reach the maximun design potential of a 125 from the mid 80's! I don't mean to be rude, but c'mon you have like no riding experience your not gonna be any faster on a '86 CR 125 than you would be on an '03 CR 125 right now untill you get in some solid experience. Do yourself a favor and get like a early 90's 125 that is in good shape my of my fav's is the 93 CR 125. That will be more then enough bike for your to start out with. Then say another year or two down the road go for a newer one.

For you they are both the same...like MXPIMP said get a used bike. Maybe not early 90's as the suspension isn't as good but just a few years old. You can pick up a 98-99 for around 2 - 2.5G. Then when you are winning C class get a newer bike (There are so many times I've seen guys on older bikes kick everyones ass, the rider makes the bike not the other way around) A new bike loses it value so quick it isn't funny.
