Guys,
i'm the owner of a 450exc03, and find the bike really doesn't want to turn (compare to my 400 02) as anyone tried the 14mm offset on it? or is it to much? should i use the 18mm?
i'm of course, using a wer steering damper, so headshake is not realy the problem....
thanks for your advices

Lionel

wow, i'm suprised. i think my 450 turns alot better than the '02's. were do you have the sag set?

Posted by: wereurope---------------------

i'm not the only one here that tells the 48 is heavy feel, Sag, around 90, with a stiffer spring !!!!

carefull with the KTM offsets-it depends on what axle assembly it uses-the 14mm on the Sx range i think i roughly equivalent to the 18mm offset on the older 02 forks.Did your 02 have the 18mm offset clmaps?

be carefull, talkin' about exc's my 400 had 20mm offset (stock), the 450 too

Nope! That's a misinformation somebody came up with and has since been floating around here. Geometry is identical regardless of axle diameter or tube diameter. Pictures are to be found here:

Michael thanks for clearing that up lol i think im more confused than ever-i have read only tit bits of info on the KTMs-so the 14mm offset on the sx is really a 14mm -wouldnt the bike turn in way too sharp?I can see the axle size increase doesnt necessarily change the offset and with a longer fork it will be different again-it sounds to me like all owners need to find what offset they have and then if tighter steering is needed go for 2mm less offset. So 14mm offsets on a 525exc with the older style shorter legs would be a headshake monster?

I have a 02 520 with 20mm standard offset. the bike handeled like a pig! head shake on deceleration. and pushed the front end arround corners. I bought new springs front and rear set the sag/preload to the book and it handles perfect. I can choose whatever line I want in a corner and woped out staits I stugled in 3rd gear I now breeze in 5th
