Nitro RC help

Hey guys, I'm back with some more questions about my Losi XXX NT gas RC truck. I run it on a track that I built for myself, and it does fine for about 5 minutes or so, but then after I've run it for more than 5 minutes, when I go into a turn and hit the brake it will die and then be really really really really hard to start after that, then it will fire back up and then die again either when I hit the brake or let it idle for more than 10 seconds or so. What is causing this, the book said it could be a lean or rich problem, (I know the idle is set high enough) but how do I know which one it is? I tried the water drop test and the water fizzled away in about 2 seconds or so. Should I set the low speed or high speed jets?

Are you setting the idle speed with the radio trims? If you are you should set the idle speed on the carb..and use the trims for servo travel. There should be a tiny screw near the opening of the carb..this is used to set the idle. Clockwise for faster idle, counter clockwise for slower idle. Sounds like yours is to slow. As for the overheating, I would richen the low speed a little bit, then the high speed if it still runs too hot.

I agree.

Also, I know that the Assoc. trucks are set up so that the break is engaged automatically as you let off the throttle. Most of the nitro's are set up this way. You might be turning the servo so far when you engage the break that it's actually closing the carb off completely. Pull the air filter and check this with the truck off. You should be able to see where the break is engaged and how much the carb is opened up. Should be about an eighth of an inch (roughly) if I remember correctly. Worst case, put all of the motor settings back to what it calls for in the instructions and see if that clears it up. Hope this helps.

thanks guys, I have set the idle slower to -5, this is stored so that the trim reads 0 but realistically is at -5 (if that makes any sense). So I will set that back to normal, and hopefully my problems clear up. The only thing that keeps me from making the low speed richer is that when I do that the truck gets really loaded up with fuel, the response is terrible. So should I go leaner with the low speed, I've already seized it once so I'm very cautious about what I do and in what increments, thanks so much for the help,
Jeff

The most important thing is to make the adjustments after the motor warms up. If your loading up on fuel, I would say go leaner on the low speed..but this can raise the temp alot.

Remember to make all your tuning adjustments in 1/8 turns. Also, make sure there aren't any air leaks in the fuel tubing. Check the combustion chamber also.
