YZ/KYB fork protector questions

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I know this isnt a suspension Q persay, but i think this is the best place for it!

i have noticed that the CR's dont run guiders on their fork protectors. can i get away wil taking mine (the guiders) of the YZ since they really do seem to be in the way, especially since i am running the CR style routing.

any one tried this with sucess or bad results?

i suppose there is only one way to find out!

cheers

bruce

Removing the guides seems to work well on the YZ/KYB's.

Have not had any problems with it so far..............

The CR fork protectors are stronger though, but those want fit the KYB's.

Bclapham! We have been running without the guides on both Yz for the last couple years. No problems

thanks guys!

I you look close, all the factory teams, run without them. I pulled mine off and it seems fine. The Honda ones are very nice, too bad they don't fit. UFO or Acerbis should make a set like the Hondas.

the protectors can get ripped off mid race leaving your lower legs exposed to rock roost $$$$$$$. i keep the guide on but run it loose so its free to pivot and centre itself on the gaurd.the bolt wont fall out.

FYI, I took my guides off when I installed a Ride Eng SS braided line, CR routed. The line pulls the guard over enough to let it rub in the bottom of the outer fork tube. I had a line rubbed in mine after one day of riding. I'm going to work on it this weekend and see if I can move the brake line clamp up enough so it doesn't distort the guard. Didn't have any rubbing problems on the right side.

Has anyone found guards that have the line clamp already mounted for CR type routing on YZs? I have seen it in some mags but have found that KTM and CR guards don't fit.

I never took mine of my YZ's, but I know the factory guys do it. I have seen several of them riding around the track w/o them after someone snaged them in a crash, etc. dbrace is right if the guard comes off thats some serious damage to the legs. I got a divot in one of mine and even though I had it wet sanded out w/1000grit wet/dry sand paper it would blow seals more often from then on.
