Who is the fastest rider over 1 lap.

I feel tortelli is the fastest rider of all the current generation-im not talking of a season or how many championships a rider has-just raw agressive speed. When tort had those come from behind rides at the start of his american adventure it was almost unbelivable. That one where he went around the outside of RC in a long loamy corner was really good. Also Albe was very fast on his day.Rc is a obvious choice. What about ferry and Lusk and Lorooco a few seasons ago, hell emig looked good-whats your opinion?

Pastrana and Windham come to mind.

I agree with you Marcus---Tortelli has had some amazing races where you just had to think "how the hell is that possible?" Plus he's one of the most "beautiful" riders, and I don't mean his looks. His style is something else. I just don't know why he can't keep it consistent. RC makes it with pure desire, consistency and the refusal to lose. However, Tort made him look kinda stupid on a few occasions--Redbud 2 years ago comes to mind, when he ran out of gas. He just handed RC his ass on that one.

Another guy I think who is brutally fast, but not consistently so, is Langston. I think on a good day, Grant could whoop anyone's ass! Another great, stylish rider as well.

It's also hard to argue that Stewart isn't just the fastest ever, as well. Recall his "toying" with Reed last year. Just unreal. I think when he gets on a 250, RC's dominance will come to an end. And immediately. Not that RC won't beat him, but JBS will hand him his butt frequently. And doing it on the green bike that RC couldn't wait to get off of, will make it that much more enjoyable to watch.

David Vuillemin, also, is sometimes UNBEATABLE. Especially on the smoother, nontechnical Supercross tracks.

Heck, I dunno.

i think windham wins this ..

i think it was the first national of '99. tortelli won. i was just blown away by how fast they were going. usually, tv races bore me. tv just doesn't do mx justice but that race was different.

i remember back in the day, one of the mag's proclaiming cooper as the fastest rider in the world-for one lap.

Posted by: bclapham---------------------

i think windam wins the "going fastest, but looking slow since he is so smooth" award

i also want to throw stewart in, watching him slow down and then take reed was unreal, i dont believe there is anone faster over 1 lap out there. how many times has he gone over and still won?

and what about pichon and RC, come on guys lets get it on, i miss them old threads, how long till the next MXDN?

and whilst on the topic of foriegners, this is for Kiwi.....i am hoping for good thins from Townley this year, i saw him on saturday at a local track and he looked awesome, it was cold wet and greasy and he was clearing this big step down right off the bat, whearas a lot of the other big names have taken a while to work up to it...he looked like the real deal, not sure about Hurley yet.

Hughes might also be a suprise, he was on the 125sx and kept well up to dubach et al on the 450's at glen helen~

just thought about it some more, definately RC or Stewart....they have redefined speed to the point where the rest of them need to look it up in the dictionary!

I have a feeling Stewart is going to re-define the word fast. Definitely RC right now though

Posted by: dirt bike dave---------------------

LaRocco is up there. He has made a career of reeling in the lead pack after a bad start.

I agree Bubba, Tortelli, Windham and Pastrana have shown amazing 1 lap speed, but if races were only 1 lap RC would still be the man to beat.

Posted by: steve talley---------------------

#259 stewart he will break all Ricky,s records. #14 Windham super fast his day will come.#22 2003 supercross champ!!!!! #4 carmichael 2003 runner up

Posted by: rickyd---------------------

LaRocco is always passing so i think he turns in the fast lap speeds, too bad his first laps are alwyas the slowest

Posted by: danielst---------------------

I would have to vote for Pastrana. Over 1 lap he, to me, has shown that he can outrun anybody. He has the cornering speed of Carmichel and since everybody jumps at about the same speed, that leaves it down to rhythm section timing and speed through the whoops. Carmichel and Bubba get through rhythm sections the best, with Pastrana not far behind. When it comes to the whoops however, I've yet to see anybody faster than Pastrana. Give Bubba a year on the 250 and there is a good chance he'll take the title though. And, with the way Reed has looked so far, he may be one to watch as well.

I don't know about that....you read that kind of stuff all the time, but look at the way JBS and RC come off the face of a jump, scrubbing speed when necessary, laying it flat when necessary, etc....I don't know a thing about riding, but these guys look to accelerate their speed in the air after jumpface exit, whereas some of the more upright and traditional riders (eg, Fonseca ---JUST IMO) don't appear to do the same thing. Hell, I can't ROLL a jump without breaking my leg, and I CAN PROVE IT. :silly:

Supercross or Motocross or GP. 3 very different things. Outdoors I think Langston is the only one that can run with RC right now. Indoors I think Reed is the only one that can run with RC. GP's I think Pichon is unbeatable unless Lanston, Reed, RC, Tortelli or about another 1/2 dozen other guys that are currently racing in the U.S. go over to Europe.

Posted by: marcusgunby---------------------

I adgree on pichon-however this year he has some competition-its like the ama class-250 and 450 4 strokes together, everts and smets are riding the 450s against pichons 250-should be good.

Posted by: bclapham---------------------

Marcus, dont rule out the mighty Dobbster! daja vu? lets hope him and crocker dont need to make anymore excuses about that 250SX

Posted by: marcusgunby---------------------

Bruce im starting to think KTM have developed a funky 250-he really didnt look right on it and now the MC decision makes it look suspect-crocker has left and gone back to CAS honda on the 450-not a thing many riders choose(it was his decision) to do-leave factory KTM???

Posted by: Jeffreyala---------------------

I'd have to say KDUB..........................It's too early to start talking about buuba on a 250...........That will be exciting though......

Posted by: jboomer---------------------

Judging from the last sx season, I remember time and again Pastrana having the fastest lap (not fastest lapS). IMO, he's the fastest because he's not afraid to take the biggest risk (hence more prone to crash and injure -- himself and/or the bike). Bubba is super fast too. Probably the fastest, next to Carmichael, on the jumps (I agree that they both will lay the bike flat in order to scrub speed...but I think Bubba probably does it more consistently, or at least it's more obvious that he's doing it).

Cool down, pat. We're just having fun speculating. ...but since you brought it up, it's yours. Please DO inform us who had the fastest lap times by date, event, barometric pressure, jetting spec & whether or not there were superimposed circumstances, such as recent psychosocial stressors or ssri use. If you throw the data out, I'll create a multilinear regression curve and we'll calculate the fastest rider ever.

Smile, baby. We're just havin' fun. :thumb:

Posted by: jboomer---------------------

Someone has a crush on RC! You should see his other posts! Pat, maybe you should follow your own advice! I suggest you lose the RC comforter, coffee mug, and jockey's --- it's an unhealthy lifestyle!

Posted by: mxneagle---------------------

Robbie Reynard gets my nod. I'm not sure that he can still pull it off, but I once watched him come from the back of the pack and pass RC by around the mid point (RC holeshot BTW) and then pull out about a 20 sec lead by the checkers at Unadilla. That boy can fly when things click for him. Of course he only managed a mid pack finish the next moto.

Posted by: WideOpen---------------------

guy cooper!!

he lead some laps against RC in te outdoors, he's one fast guy on that KTM

Posted by: HiG4s---------------------

well tonight the fastest laps in the final were,

Reed 57.272
RC 58.406
Rock 59.063

In Practice TP had a 57.??? I don't remember the 10ths.

What I really found interesting was that Bubba on a 125 had a 59.054 faster than the Rock's fastest.
