CR250F Infomation

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: bedell99---------------------

Ok guys I saw the CR250F and X over the weekend and took some pictures. Here are my thoughts. First off the bike is non running. No internals of any sort. Not even gaskets. All plastic or should I say fiberglass is fake. The rear side panals are half dipped in paint giving that 2-toned look. It is still a one piece side panel. The seat is fake with a weird bump in it. It is similar to Ramsey's seat. The subframe is round. Ok here are the major things.
1) The engine is very compact. I mean small. The spark plug is not centered. Compared to the Yz motors, the engine looks half the size. The exhuast comes off at an absurd angle off the side of the cylinder. It almost looks like it comes off on the side of the engine.
2) The frame is completely new. A 4th generation frame. The head area is completely different from the 3rd generation. Also the spar son the side are much smaller. Approximetely 20mm smaller compared to the current frame. Word from the honda guy on site. This frame will be on all CR's next years. The down tube is much longer. Overall the frame is much cleaner.
3) Suspension. The bike uses standard showa components. Although they might be a little different internally. The bottom rebound nut is different than the current CR. It doesn't have a lock nut washer.
4 The bike will be available in late August, early September and will be definetly be ridden in the Nationals. As for Supercross he wouldn't say. The bike weighs in a 215 pounds dry and the x version weigh approximetely 223. These numbers are from the honda guy.
5)Brakes, swingarm, chain, sprocket, hubs all look current.
6)All CR's will come standard next year with Oversize bars.
7)If I think of anything more I will post. Also getting pictures of the bike developedas we speak. Oh ya I almost forgot. As for 450X he wouldn't divulge any infomation. Sorry. We are going to have to wait for the one.

Good report! Eagerly awaiting your pics. Thanks for the write-up

I was wondering about the oversize bars, noticed that on the Honda website, I thought it was an oversite on their part, but maybe they will produce them with oversize bars. KTM comes with a good bar from the factory, why not honda.

Very much looking forward to your pics, hope they turned out good !!

I read the '04 CRs are coming stock with Renthal Fatbars, we'll have to wait and see though.

Hey Eric,

Welcome to Denver. You a trail rider or a track guy? If you like the trails, there is a pretty great bunch of local guys on a Yahoo group that do Wednesday night after work rides, Moab trips and such.

Interested?

Send me a PM

Rod

hey bedell99, you get in pics of the CRF250X also ?, thats the one I;m really interested in, just would like to know an official release date.

Posted by: bedell99---------------------

I got both. A a couple of each. You have to see how small the starter is on the 250x. It really is small. I have no idea where the battery is mounted. Rod I ride mostly tracks and race almost every weekend. I'm definetely interested with riding with you guyz. I try to ride everything, this was my first summer ever really riding anything except for tracks. Colorado is great. I'm flying back to NY tomorrow to visit the good ole fam. and will post them from my folks computer. So they should be up on Mon or Tues.

dump question, but what's the adress of your yahoo pages?

Posted by: MotoGreg---------------------

Here are a few pics of the F and X that I took Oct. 5 at the Del Mar flat track race, nothing really close up or anything. The X has a really sleek little LED tailight, it's going to be a great offroad bike. Link to pics below.

Hey MotoGreg: THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!! Great job on the pics.
I noticed that in pic #6 (the closeup of the jug) that the jug is very odd shaped. It appears that there is something bolted directly to the jug (I thought it was the carb but now I believe I can see the carb above this protrusion), any idea? Any more pics of this area?
Gotta agree withyou - that is one sweet looking scoot - I CANT WAIT TO RIDE ONE!
YOU ARE THE MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Woodsy
C-ya, I am going back to those picks

Posted by: jboomer---------------------

Woodsy, I think what you're seeing below the carb is a cam tensioner? And the round thing behind it is the backside of the kickstarter.

Posted by: MXP1MP---------------------

Its the automatic cam chain tensioner its pratically in the same spot on my YZF.

Posted by: woodsy---------------------

DAHHHHHHH, right on target you 2!!!! Just didnt look right ot ol Woodsy - thanks! Man that jug looks real short (the faster to rev with said the wolf to little red ) - what a compact sweet lookin thumper!

I thought the round thing under the jug was the E-start for the X. I can't see the "round thing" in the second photo (CR250F, no E-start).

Posted by: MotoGreg---------------------

Pics 5 and 6 are of the X, you can tell because it was on it's wheels leaned over on the kickstand. You can see the top of the kickstand in pic 6. In pic 6 the round thing under the carb and to the right of the tensioner is the starter. In pic 5 I tried to get a good view of the tailight but you have to look closely or you'll miss it, it blends in really good it's so sleek.

Posted by: woodsy---------------------

Oh yea, thanks MG. Yea that little taillight went right by me - it will never pass DOT inspection in Michigan

Does anyone know if the CRF250 and the CRF250x will be at all the other motorcycle shows that are scheduled for the next couple of months? I would really like to see them at the cleveland ohio show at the end of Janurary.

Posted by: dejackson---------------------

There is a brief article in Transworld Motocross magazine that shows the new CRF250R in the last national race in Japan. Ernesto Fonseca went 2-1, beating Chad Reed's 1-2 for the overall.

Posted by: bedell99---------------------

Ok guyz I just got back from NY will have the pics posted. Sorry about the delay but most of you know what is like when vacationing.

Posted by: helibuf---------------------

if you do happen to go and see the new prototypes. could you ask if the crf250x will be "green sticker" approved in california please. i'm wanting a new bike and any thing decent out here is "red stickered" which means i can only ride it certain times of the year. isn't worth while. however if the x will make "green sticker" approval then its worth waiting for.

thanks a million
doug
