??? Hey all you veteran riders! I'm going to buy one of these two bikes next week. Which do you all prefer, if it were you making the puchase which bike is better for track riding? KX 250 or the CRF 450? and why do ya think so?

thanks for any input.

KX!!!!!! 4stores need electric start as far as Im concerned

how is it that you came to decide between these two bikes? how did you rule out the YZ, CR, and SX 250'S? or the RFS or YZF 450's?

i don't MX but i know quite a few of them (i love calling them "them"), and the consensus is that lap times are faster on the 4 strkes even though they may actually feel slower. so if your goal it to turn in fast lap times, go with the CRF. if you want the thrill of the big 2 strke hit, better go with the KX.

CRF without a doubt. As for the difficult starting, the CRF is the easiest 4 banger to start. Easy smooth power, thats how id describe it. I don't own 1 but iv'e ridden 1 and it was great.

I'm considering the same 2 bikes - I just sold my CRF450 & I'm thinking the KX because I want to add the TMR 327cc kit = 60 hp & 38 ft-lbs torque, plus 2-stroke handling & 8 lbs lighter weight beats the CRF -

I own a 2002 CRF450 and have owned a KX. I will never go to the 2-stroke again. I do not like waiting for the power band. With the CRF there is no wait for the power you get. One reader is going to get a KX and get a kit to make it have 60hp. That is great, spend money for the bike, put the kit in and by the time and money you have spent shedding 8lbs and adding 5hp more than the stock CRF450, you could have simply bought a CRF450 and a couple of after market products anb be right where the modified KX is without paying as much. As far as I am concerned, with all the products that I have on my bike I weigh 228 fully fueled. The KX will be around 220 not fueled. I have so many tiny changes on my bike to where it makes it so much lighter than stock, stronger and cheaper than the kit without any other product he plans on putting on his KX. So to me I would go with the more powerful, better throttle response and for less aftermarket money can be lighter than the KX. That is coming from me, who ownes a shop and does modifications. If you need advice on what you will need for your CRF450 let me know.

Redfever,
Thanks for the info - here's my thoughts - I owned the 02cr450 this past season - loved the power as you describe but - I ride only sand tracks - the CRF has a tendencey to drop it's front wheel in deep whoops at higher speeds, especially sweepers - the resultant crashes don't work for me and my 41 year old body that is currently on the mend from a number of these crashes this past year - never had this problem with any of the KX or CR 2-strokes I've owned in the past 30 years - I believe the problem to be inherit to the 4-stroke handling, unless someone can explain different - yes, I've had my suspension & all handling variables adjusted, but still same issue - I'd rather spend extra $ on the kx327 and stay off the ground, less cost that way all around (for me at least)

never had this problem since I got my current bike. he he.

I have rode both crf and yzf ,they both put the power to the ground so effectively it is not fair compared to a 2 stroke .The power of them especially in the sand is really felt rolls right on, it just hooks and drives unreal!!!!!.Suspension wise,I did not have enough time on them to judge, so I will leave that alone. What did I buy,a 03 kx 250 the only reason I did not buy a thumper is because of the simplicity of the good ole 2 stroke. When it comes time to diagnose the bike running ratty or tracing a problem, for me I feel more comfortable working on 2 strokes, less moving internals ,process of elimination is much easier.Plus I do not want the 2 stroke to become extinct KEEP THE SALES UP ON 2 STROKES AND R&D WILL STILL GIVE ATTENTION TO THEM!!!! My theory anyway's.

For the track the CRF450 is the best. It's so smooth and nice. Also,it has tons of low-end!!!Go with the CRF450 NOT the KX250.You will love the CRF450 and never go back to a 2 stroke.Hope you have fun on what ever you get.

Brian35 - What did you end up buying the KX or CRF?

Posted by: Studboy---------------------

If noise is an issue, I would not get a racing 4-stroke. Stock to stock they are much louder.
